"To explain the unknown by the known is a logical procedure; to explain the known by the unknown is a form of theological lunacy."
Breathtaking.
Am I the only one who gets a sense of anxiety from such images?

I always have too.
It reminds me of a quote I can never remember, I could've sworn it was Nietzsche but now I'm not so sure...something about what is one lifespan or one lifetime against a million light years...a blink? Does anyone else know? It's been driving me nuts.
I believe it was Carl Sagan, from the Cosmos series: "The span of time for human evolution is but a blink in the order of the cosmos."
He is also the author of "The Pale Blue Dot."
I have pretty much everything Sagan ever wrote, plus a number of great stories of collaboration with him (I was one of his physics translators from Russian for a time). He was a pure genius with an astonishing breadth and depth of knowledge in virtually every area of human endeavor.

That's similar, but that's not it. The one I'm thinking of was longer, longer than what I typed.
Lol, you reminded me. If have so much free time lately I got a Russian/English textbook from the library so I can try to learn Russian....wish me luck. I should get off SW and get to work.
