Default Another supplement we may want to research:

    MSM - Methylsulfonylmethane.
It's an organic sulfur compound. Right now it is sold in supplement and cream form to aid in joint health. It is an anti-inflammatory.
Anyway, on both MUA and the smartskincare board, I have found people attributing several benefits to this:

    -lessening/eliminating pain in joints
    -fast hair and nail growth
-better skin (b/c of the anti-inflammatory properties); esp. help with acne and rosacea

So someone on MUA did some research and is suggesting that in addition to taking it internally, it might be beneficial to apply it topically as well, especially combined with Silymarin (milk thistle).

    http://members.rosacea-research-and-...?showtopic=461

So I found a simple MSM cream, and have ordered the Silymarin to mix in it. I'll keep you all updated on that.

But I'm also going to go get the supplement to take internally, and I will also post back and let you know how that is going.

I already take a glucosamine with MSM. I don't know if it works great, because I haven't been off of it, so who knows what my knees feel like otherwise.

I take the Jarrow's MSM powder. I add 1 to 2 scoops to my 1 L water bottles.

I tried MSM but didn't notice radical results. Maybe I need to use a premium brand.....?

Sulfur tabs have been around since my grandparents were children and were taken for anything from joint pain in adults to treating lice (apparently the little blood suckers hate the taste)

Maybe this new stuff won't, since science has advanced alot more in the last 60 years, but the old ones that people still took very commonly when my mom was a child made BO extra funkeh.

Keep us posted because I have arthritic ankles and dissed sulfur based on my grandparents', who stopped taking them altogether when other remedies became easily available, descriptions.

    ^^^^^^^^^^LOL at your sig Lysondra!

I tried MSM oral supplements for two months but it made my skin bruise easily and flake very badly! I guess I already had enough sulfur in my diet.

The word meth has gotten a bad rap due to crystal methamphetamine but even then it just denotes an extra methyl group (CH3) added to the chain. So it's kinda funny, but don't let it scare you.

I was taking glucosamine chondroitan with MSM and I really noticed a difference after a couple of times taking it. I didn't realize the MSM is an anti-inflammatory. I'm not the type to take advil or tylenol ever, so it was kind of cool that I got an automatic side benefit from the pills.

MSM is quite commonly used actually. I've recommended it to some of my patients, and while it doesn't work for all, some do report some improvement in joint pain. I don't know whether it is a placebo effect, but hey........ sometimes I'll roll with anything that gives a subjective improvement in symptoms. The one that my patients tend to get is Move Free Advanced with MSM. I think they get it at Costco.
