Ladies with Implants: what was your Rx

I just got boobs on Wednesday. They are big and they hurt. To make matters worse I am really really sensitive to pain.

    My doc prescribed

    Percocet (Oxycodone 5mg)
    Vicodin (Hydrocodone 7.5mg)
    Valium (Diazepam 5mg)

The Percocet is okay.... it works kinda sorta.... most of the time I am still hurty and it wears off in exactly 4 hours so I wake up in the middle of the night in agony and have to take more.

The Vicodin made me puke... no thanks, no more of that.

The Valium is okay, it knocks me out so I usually take it at night.

My question is... have any of you ladies with elective surgeries been prescribed medicines that worked and did their job? Do you know their names so I can ask my doctor for them? I am down to my last two percocets and I am terrified of what is going to happen in 4 hours so I need advice ASAP.

My doc says take Tylenol but I assure you.... this is not Tylenol style pain. This is a whole new level of anguish....

I had Vicodin and Motrin. The motrin was amazing, vicodin just made me sleepy. I have a pretty high pain tolerance though, but even after I had my son I was taking motrin and doing just fine. You can get a prescription for really strong motrin, not sure of the mg though.. try that! Congrats on your new boobies too

I had Vicodin and Ambien. After several days the Vicodin started to hurt my tummy so he gave me Percocets instead. I didn't feel good, but it definitely took the edge off the pain.

Something my doctor suggested after my ankle surgery was to take advil with the percocet to make it stronger.

Also, could you try splitting the vicodin to see if you could keep it down?

I took demerols and valium. Both did the trick. I took the valium before the surgery, to calm my nerves, and the demerol for the 10 days following the surgery.

I was doing OTC advil on day 4 and didn't need my percs.

Have you tried the OTC stuff yet?

I have a standing script for Vicoprofen..its vicodin, but instead on combo-ing it with acetaminophen its combo-d with ibuprofen...that might be better. Percs made me puke. I have known people who had issues with pain meds though...and for them prescription Tylenol 3 worked.

Have you tried taking your vicodin with something small to eat, like a dry bit of toast? This really helped me with the nausea when I was taking my meds.

At first I had percoset and a muscle relaxer, can't remember which one.

On day two I was in so much pain that we called the Dr., and the on call Dr. drove to my house to check on me, and he brought me an rx for oxycontin and lortab. He had me taking 1 oxycontin every 12 hours and lortabs in between if needed. I only had to use them for probably 3 days and then I was good with just motrin.

If you're in a lot of pain, call the dr. The percoset made me sick as hell.

Sophia- The Percocet is quite a bit stronger than Vicodin 7.5; about 2 times stronger pill for pill. Certain people get nausea with certain opiates, you probably are just one of those people who cannot tolerate the hydrocodone in Vicodin. The Percocet and Vicodin are both short lasting opiates, if you have a lower pain tolerance you may want to discuss with your doctor giving you a short term supply of long acting opiates. Something like (but not necessarily specifically) long release morphine tablets or oxycontin.

Ah Emily... I'm nowhere near that hardcore. I wake up in the middle of the night when my medicine wears off in complete terrible pain and have to scrounge for another dose just to go to sleep. The pain wakes me up about 1-2 times a night.

I know people have horrible injusries and they aren't given tylenol. Why is my doc telling me to take tylenol?

Tylenol isn't a cure for a severed foot.

Tylenol isn't a cure for massive chest re-configuration.

Basically I need a strong medicine to function and the little "Refills: 0" on my Percocet bottle is causing me to to cry right now.

How could my out of state doctor have abandoned me so? He told me that if I needed more medicine he'd take care of it.

I can't take the chinatown bus to Philly on a 2.5 hour ride to get a 'scrip from a guy who neglected to give me one measly little refill.

Sophia - Have you had opiates before? Most people who are relatively "opiate naive", and have never taken a significant amount of opiates before, get very good pain relief from Percocet. I rarely prescribe more than Vicodin, I probably prescribe Percocet once a month at most.

Be careful with the Tylenol. Each tablet of Vicodin has 500mg of tylenol, each tablet of Percocet has 325mg of Tylenol. Your daily intake of Tylenol should never exceed 4000mg.

Like I mentioned above, if your pain is not controlled, you need to ask your surgeon for a longer acting opiod. Those generally don't have any Tylenol in them. Also, another consideration is a synthetic opiod like Tramadol which could be alternated with the Percocet. Just a few suggestions......

My Dr. was a real asswipe about pain meds. He gave me 5 Vicoden. That was it. Nothing else. I had serious muscle spasms for a week. It hurt to breathe sooo bad. I actually called his office and ask for more and was turned away.

At my follow-up I was told I was confused with a patient that had a "problem" with painkillers, or I would have been given 20 and some muscle relaxers.

That means your doctor is not thorough and careful at charting. I'd be angry and annoyed.

^^ I was beyond pissed. Apparently his nurse didn't even pull my chart when I called. She had thought she recognized my name when I was coming out of surgery and informed him to limit my painkillers, then never bothered to double-check. I hadn't even been there before. My BA is the extent of my PS.

The bad part is I HATE painkillers. I won't take them unless I absolutely have to. I had my wisdom teeth cut out and took 1 vicoden and threw the rest away.

I've had a few surgeries on my jaw involving bone grafts, screws, and metal plates. The first round of surgery they gave me Codeine which I loooved and worked just perfectly for me to numb the pain. The second time they gave me the choice between Codeine and Vicodin and I decided to try Vicodin. It really made me sick to my stomach and apparently that isn't too uncommon.

I only needed the codeine for about 4-5 days following both surgeries and then I switched to just tylenol. I wonder if its not as strong though. My brother recently had a major surgery and they gave him vicodin and percocet, not codeine. I couldn't feel any of my pain on it though and in general I felt pretty good with codeine.

I strangely never needed anything for pain.....yeah I was sore and stiff but I managed. However, when I am in intolerable pain from an old back surgery, I do find that Aleve works wonders. I try to steer clear of prescription meds. Hope you feel better babe....everyday will get better!

interesting choice. Tylenol #3 is a lot weaker than Vicodin. But you never know, it may work well for you. Once again, don't forget about the 4000mg max daily Tylenol allowance. Any more is bad for the liver.

True, but for some people it works much better. I've known people who didnt respond to anything but Tylenol 3. Good luck to you honey...believe me, I know what its like to be in pain and nothing works to relieve it.It's hell on wheels.

I would totally have crazy sexy necrophilia with you. Rowr.

But yeah, if you can't take more than 4000mg of aspirin - take some advil. It's not aspirin. Or motrin, motrin seems to be popular on here.

Let me know if you need anything. I'm free on Thursday. xoxo!
