    Default white guy music?

so i am going to start dancing in the next month, and the club lets us choose our music. i think custies would appreciate if they were familiar with the songs i was dancing to, thus making them more likely to spend cash.

the club im working at has mostly white guys, 20's 30's and all i listen to is r and b. you know mario, jaheim, fantasia. so im at a loss.

i realize they may know some of the stuff i listen too,and that they all listen to different stuff and that it probably wont make much of a difference, but im trying to do everything i can to tip the scales in my favor.

any suggestions as to your favorite money makers would be awesome

btw i realize there are threads on this already but they were from 2005, and i figured there's been some goodies since then

Rock. For an older crowd..stuff like AC/DC or Led Zepplinn always gets me tips. For a younger crowd..Manson,Kid Rock,NIN...

but dont think that just because they are white they wont appreciate good r&b...see what response you get. If you can...before you go on stage..go around and ask what the they'd like to hear and tell the DJ. Guys will def. tip if they think you played something JUST for them!

Ask the DJ, they should know the crowd that they get in and what they like to hear most. If it's a younger crowd some of your R&B may go over pretty well. Most of that is top 40 now a days.

Considering that 90% of rap is bought by white people, rap and r & b is white guy music. Most young white guys WANT to see me dance to yung joc and 50. I am a black girl who has mostly danced in predominatly white strip clubs.

Most white guys in their 20s know more about hip hop than I do.

^^Truth. And lots of older guys like high energy r&b/dance (Rihanna) or even the slower stuff you listed. And guys who like heavy rock stuff often like rap/rock and 'gangster' rap, too. You could also play older stuff-LL, Heavy D, Bell Biv Devoe, that sorta thing.

As long as the DJ will play it, I don't see why you couldn't keep dancing to R&B. Even if it's not something everyone is familiar with, it's very definitely "strip club music." Not all white guys like AC/DC... and even if they do, chances are someone, at some point in the night if not several, will dance to it. Doesn't have to be you.

If a lot of the girls in the club are playing more rock, your R&B may make you stand out, therefore getting there attention.
The guys aren't really listening as closely as we would like to believe they are anyway.

If you try it and feel it isn't working, you can always go with classic 80's music. The songs with really easy lyrics that they'll all get into. Works pretty well in my club, but only two of the girls do it.

I recommend dancing to music that suits your personality. This will attract the best customer's to you (guys you have something in common with and can more easily sell to) and you'll feel happier and more relaxed while on stage.

If you play something that is novel for your club, try mixing it up with songs the crowd is likely to recognize.

I always had classic rock played for me. All the clubs I worked out over played rap, and r&b so I wanted to mix it up. Also I was going for the older men, 40-60ish and I found out they seem to like that music more than the younger music.

eminem and fifty cent. I'm laughing to think of all the times I've seen white guys singing along to these songs while I dance.

I would not play any rap. Even besides white guys, I've spoken to a lot of older men who list it as their least fave. Along with country (in these parts).

I'd recommend some sexy R&B (no one dislikes this!!), mixed in with some classic rock or bluesy stuff for the older guys.

For the younger crowd, fun + dancy hip-hop, sexy R&B, alternative/current rock.

I work in a pretty much Latin club, both dancers and custies, but I find if I stay true to myself artistically, I get the best response.

I'm mostly an alt-rock chick, but on the lighter side. It is amazing how many younger Latin guys, even the ones who don't speak the greatest English really like rock.

I did a set of one rap song (Grillz) and one of my fave R&B songs evar (Alicia Keyes' Fallin). I made decent stage $$ but also snagged about 12 dances right after ward.

I do throw in some Santana and Mana for the crowd from time to time. I like it, but I feel silly dancing to it when all these Latinas I work with do a much better job with that genre than I do.

Enough, babel. The stage is there to sell yourself, but I think of it as the place in stripping for artistic and personal expression. I find if you are loving your music and you are feeling happy and sexy, they will feed off it and want to know you better, therefore more apt to spend more.

I am a white guy in my early forties and prefer rock...BUT...I also enjoy good R&B...I am not into any hip/hop or rap (not my generation)....but some Earth, Wind & Fire will always get me going. Classic Rick James is good also...I could go on and on...

It is not that all these guys don't like R&B...they just maybe don't enjoy modern R&B much. I am an old school Metal head and I don't like much of the modern metal either...but put some classic metal on and I am good to go.

I really think the issue of musical taste is more generational than racial...in general.

See for me, one of the reasons I don't dance to rap/hip hop at work is because they EXPECT that's what all black dancers should/are dancing to.

If R&B get heavy rotation at your club, and you want to stand out but don't want such a dramatic change, why not try pop. I like Britney Spears "Outrageous" and "Breathe on Me" Janet Jackson's "Strawberry Bounce" For old-school rock and roll, I like Carlos Santana "Black Magic Woman" Jimmy Hendrix of course. Lenny Kravitz is always sexy too.

As a dancer of color myself I think it is a mistake when a black dancer feels she has to change who she is because the crowd is white. I always dance to my own music, unless the DJ throws in a rock song due to a request.

Black girls look like sell outs if they only dance to white music. Its ok to dance to a white song occasionally if you like it, but not because you think that's what the crowd wants to hear. The guys know good and well that we listen to R&B and hip hop in our cars, and some guys have told me that they want to hear my kind of music when I go on stage.

Don't feel uncomfortable because the crowd is predominately white. Thats par for the course. Be yourself.

i hear you tina, but the thing is im not taking my clothes off on stage because i want to showcase me.it's not about me. im not changing who i am, im doing a job, and it doesnt have to be in line with who i am otc. im doing it to make money, not to let the world know who i am. so anything that can make the customer that much more comfy with me, can make me that much more moolah. i know i loosen up when i recognize songs, so i figure they do too. i really didnt want this thread to be about, oh you shouldn't change...... i really just wanted suggestions on music white guys like.
