I think you would boil it? I love broccoli but the big tree like ones scare me. I get the frozen kind and leave that stuff to the big boys.

cut off the end of the stalk, maybe cut up into smaller pieces if you like, and steam in the microwave for about 3 - 3 1/2 minute. put it in a microwave safe bowl, add a few tablespoons of water, cover with saran wrap and poke a few holes in the top. yeah, 3 1/2 minutes should do it.
I steam it with a bit of lemon juice
oh, don't boil it!
definitely steam
I steam mine on the stove. Only boil it if you're going to make a soup, and then use the brocolli water as part of the stock.
otherwise you loose too many nutrients.
I also like to sautee mine with a little bit of seseme oil and fresh ground ginger.

i have a steamer basket:
i prefer this to microwaving. I just sprinkle whatever seasonings I want over the trees, and put it on top of a boiling pot for maybe 3-5 minutes, till it is the brightest green color.
you can also put it in the pot with just a little bit of water, maybe 1/3-1/2 a cup, and steam it that way. (use a lid) that way you don't need to go out and buy the basket.

I love blanched broccoli. Plunge it in boiling water for a little bit until it turns a very vibrant green, then take it out. Leaves it nice and crispy.

I use a contraption like this because it came with the cookware set I bought. Just add water to the bottom pan, the top one has holes in the bottom that you set above the water and toss the broccoli in. Great with cheese or on top of potatoes
I prefer to just snap off little bites, wash it, and eat it raw though.
I've never tried blanching it but I love doing that to asparagus.
or just get the steam bags. It's a ziploc bag made for veggies that you put in the microwave. Just follow the structions on the bag for the type of veggie. It works perfectly and can be reused if you are gentle!

oh, and of course what they said about cutting it up first.

Blanching is good, steaming is good. Boiling is BAD BAD BAD! Don't boil it.
You could also stir-fry it. It's best if you blanch it first - just bring a pot of water to a vigorous rolling boil and immerse the broccoli in it for about 30 seconds, then drain it and rinse it under cold water. Then you can stir-fry a bunch of veggies or just the broccoli by itself by heating a tablespoon or two of olive oil in a skillet and adding the blanched broccoli and some fresh chopped garlic. Casually stir it around for a few minutes until it's cooked but still firm, then serve. You can toss it with some lemon pepper too, if you want.

If you are cooking other veggies too you can steam it pretty easily in a saucepan with a steamer.
It's also good chopped up with other veggies and stir fried in a fry pan or wok.
Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.
I steam mine and put hollandaise sauce over it.

Also, if you don't already have an , I highly recommend one. They're so easy to use and you get delicious, healthy steamed veggies in minutes. Cooking time depends on what you're steaming; broccoli would take 10-15 minutes and you don't have to do anything. Just put the broccoli florets in the basket, fill the base with water, squirt some lemon over the broc if you want, turn it on, and just wait for the ding!
OH yeah!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE my electric veggie steamer. Throw in veggies and any spices I want, set the timer for that veggie(it even has little pictures so you cant screw it up) and go about making the rest of dinner. Or,if you are like me and thats pretty much all you are eating go watch tv for 20 minutes! Steamed perfectly with no effort.
I add broccoli to everything.
