    Default med side effects

Ok I looked up side effects and drug interactions for all my meds and found zip.

This isnt a huge deal, I'm just curious. I've always had a low body temp(97.4 has always been about normal for me). I've always been cold...like shivering wanting a sweater in summer cold.

Lately though I'm HOT. Like hot flashes hot. I'm sweating to death at 70 degrees.

I'm assuming some of my meds are causing this, but why wouldnt it list that on any of the sites showing side effects/interactions?

Nothing i cant live with, but its annoying.

Maybe you could ask your pharmacist?

I know the Effexor I take causes sweating.

Yeah, I sometimes get night sweats, too, when I am particularly anxious.

Ok I did find one site that lists fever as a side effect for Cymbalta. Its not just when I'm anxious...although its worse then. I find that I"m hot now all the time, wheras I used to be cold all the time. Its ok except when I sleep. I already have sleeping issues and I CANNOT sleep when I'm hot.

How many different medications have you tried, Cameron? I had to try out 3 before I found Effexor to work for me. I would tell my doc right away and definitely try something else. Hot flashes and fevers are not fun at all.

I think I've tried most at this point. Cymbalta is the only one thats had any effect on me whatsoever.

May I suggest upping your H20 intake? Perhaps the medications are causing dehydration in you...

May I also suggest that perhaps there is an increase in either your 1) uric acid production, or 2) retention, in your blood levels, as your kidneys being so overworked by the medications may be having a hard time excreting the toxins they need to, keeping them trapped inside of you.

This can cause uric acid crystals to traverse the circulatory system, invading the joints causing inflammation which is perceived as heat, particularly described as "prickly."

High levels of uric acid in the joints lead to a condition called gout, which is a very uncomfortable form of arthritis in essence, as well as kidney stones.

These are only my humble suggestions.

Aside from switching medications and doing a toss up on the corresponding side effects of the new one, I can suggest that you talk to your GP and have your blood levels checked to make sure your kidneys are alright.

Outside of medicine, I can tell you that uric acid crystal formation can also be a result of low potassium, which can be addressed simply enough via nutrition and once done so, are eliminated by the body.

Foods high in potassium: Orange juice, bananas, cantaloupe, dried peaches, prunes (dried), avocado, baked potato (plus skin), spinach (cooked), baby carrots (raw), yams, kidney beans, skim milk, nonfat yogurt, tomato sauce (unsalted), hamburger meat (lean).

You might also try .5 teaspoon of baking soda with meals, as baking soda makes the body's pH more alkaline and therefore less hospitable to uric acid crystals.

I can also suggest perhaps an acupuncturist, to help your kidneys move the uric acid out of your system?

Another suggestion: Did you just start Cymbalta? Sometimes it takes weeks (read: months) for the side effects to subside while your body adjusts to the effects of the medication.

{BTW, So infuriating how they generalize everything; i.e. "Side effect: Fever."
    Fever (Heat) is actually an indication of inflammation and/or infection- *Sigh*}

Sorry Cam. I could imagine how annoying it must be! Your body must be so tired from just everything. I hope you feel better soon!

I'll try to answer all your points:

I do need to drink more water...I'm working on that.

I have to watch my potassium though because of some of the meds so I cant really up my intake.

I've been on Cymbalta for about 3 months now, with the increased dosage about a month

Switching meds isnt really an option as I've tried about a million and this is the only one that works at all.

I do get my blood levels checked on a reg basis ...its part of my treatment to ensure nothing else is wrong and that the meds dont have to be adjusted

Gotchya! Yes, I suspected that might be the case so I also offered several other alternatives. An acupuncturist or acupressionist may help clear your body's circulatory flow so that your body may excrete the toxins that might be affecting you.

Ugh! I am so sorry about the side effects, but glad that you have found something that works for you!

Hopefully it's just an adjustment period, but please tell me that your big toe doesn't hurt...

And they haven't mentioned anything specifying uric acid?

I am just throwing things out there so that maybe the next time you visit your GP, you might ask specifically, since sometimes certain things, such as slightly elevated uric acid in your system, will not alarm them, especially if you are on several medications, unless you specifically address them. And you should because nobody knows your body better than you do! For example, you might be one of "the few" who are experiencing this side effect and that won't make headlines with them because they don't believe that their statistics will walk through the door in human form, just stay in the publications as a 1-2% which might actually be a very large population of people, depending on the study.

Feel better cameron, and when I run into any relative information regarding Cymbalta, I will pass it along.

Until then, DRINK MORE WATER, or I will personally spank you!

Tell your hubby to be your "water cop"- You might regret it (LoL), but you'll be drinking more water and you need to!!! Your poor little kidneys are screaming right now!

    How your kidneys look:

    How your kidneys feel:

Please take care of your little filters.
