Anyone read this book yet? I read it today and I think I'm going to become a vegetarian.

No... I saw it in the book store and thought it was fiction! What is it about?

Isn't it that really harsh sarcastic diet book? I think I saw the authors on Oprah a long time ago.
Written by a former model and modeling agent, I just wikipeida-ed it.

^^^ If the Wikipeida is right, I'm not intrested... veganism and abstaining from alcohol is too hard core for me. A seafood-less, wine-less, cheeseless exisitence would make me a very cranky person.
My BFF acciedently clicked on a PETA sponsered site and is now a vegetarian... it wasn't a huge leap for her since the only animals she ate was foul and seafood.

I want to be a vegan so badly but I am such a horribly lazy person. I guess that means I must not want to be vegan bad enough.![]()
From what I recall, a lot of people were offended by the way the women talked in the book too?
And yeah, I need my cheese and seafood! OMG white crabmeat sauce on angel hair....
it's really not that hard to be a vegan. i've been vegan since i was 16. it's super easy. they make everything faux. you can get fake cheese, substitute meat, substitute everything, that's not really the healthiest way to go... but idk. try going to asian restaurants...at thai places you can get lots of things that are vegan- like spring roll wraps, red curry with tofu, lots of noodle dishes, etc. It's super easy... not hard at all in america.. you've just got to research a little bit and make a few adjustments..
what's difficult, and a TOTAL lifestyle change, is going RAW.

I'm interested, Green. Do you have the book? I'll pick it up sometime this week and we can be skinny bitch buddies. I'm getting fat and I need to do something about it with a quickness!
Does it tell you what to do? Because I'm clueless.

It is a fabulous book! It's so in-your-face honest and sarcastic. I can't tell you how many times it had me laughing out loud.
It lays everything out for you, if you are interested in a vegan lifestyle. And if you aren't.. you might change your mind after reading this book.
Nah, I'd rather be a little chubby than bony. I'm more of a hedonist than a narcissist.

I have bought 7 copies for friends and family and 5 of them have gone vegetarian/vegan since reading. The other 2 have seriously reduced their meat consumption and have switched to a more whole food, natural diet. And every single one of them feels great.
Even if you have no desire to adopt a vegan lifestyle, the book does a great job of educating you about the horrific conditions of slaughterhouses and what's really on your plate. It also teaches you what a load of crap the USDA really is. Just something to think about.

Last week I was driving to a work site and happened to be on a country bumpkin road that passed by a dairy farm?/slaughter house? Anyhow, this headless cow or steer was being transported on a forklift on the roadside! It was sooooo gross! And all his buddies were crowded tight in a fenced in pen just watching their headless comrade get forklifted by. I know that's not the worst of it but it was still bothersome.
Yeah, see I rarely eat red meat or pork. I think I'm going to try to do a diet in which the only meat I consume is seafood. I'm also going to cut out the dairy but I don't eat cheese or drink animal milk much anyway. I usually drink soy milk. I rarely drink either. So, it won't be a huge change for me...

alright I just ordered the book from amazon.
The women do a have straight forward, blunt approach but that doesn't really bother me. I'd rather someone be like that than beat around the bush. It's not a big book. It just frankly educates you regarding cutting back on sugars, not using aspartame or splenda, eatting less junk food, eatting less white carbs and more whole grains, cutting back on alcohol, not smoking and how slaughter houses treat animals and the conditions the animals are kept in. It pretty much advices you to go organic vegetarian. I am not going to quit the seafood but I am going to try to increase my intake of organic veggies and fruits. I am also going to quit using Splenda. The rest of the things I already pretty much do. I love animals so much too, I feel like there are plenty of other things I can eat and live off of.
I'd love to be skinny bitch buddies! I'm ready to get in better shape for summer!![]()

I love this book... while it does push the vegan angle very hard, it's also very informative about animal cruelty and USDA corruption, which does make you think harder about the choices you make. It does have redeeming qualities even if you don't neccesarily want to be a vegan.
I don't see why anyone would be offended by their drill-sergeant style, I think a swift kick in the ass is what most people need to get on the right track. And honestly, most of their heckling is just funny.
A) I would look nasty skinny if I were a vegan and abstained from alcohol and other fine treats
B) Who the hell can commit to that? Absolute props. Not me.

Being an ultimate glutton, I used to feel the same way as you naysayers. But I think I'm ready for a change. I'd like to give it an honest try for at least a few months.
Has anybody here tried quinoa?
Hmm...I'm not nasty skinny and I've been vegan for 7 years. I'm just slender and I get to eat anything I want. Skinny Bitch worked for me!

Being vegan won't wont make you nasty skinny. You could eat french fries, pb&j, and tofutti all day not be skinny. Most people who are vegan are healthy because they care about what they put in their bodies.

Skinny Bitch is ok, but DO NOT read about the slaughterhouses if you are very sensitive to gore. I don't even eat meat and this really disturbed me. I could barely eat a salad for weeks. It was way more graphic than needed and I still have nightmares occasionally.
BTW - I can disect a cadaver and not have problems, but this was WAY friggen awful.

I've never read the book but all last month I tried out a vegan diet cold turkey & it did wonders. My brain & digestive system functioned better, I had so much more energy and felt lighter. I was more confident and talkative and had better posture & quality of sleep.
This week I cheated a bit but I plan on continuing an all vegan diet 6 days a week & then rewarding myself with fatty awesome shit like dim sum & thai food on sundays...not for weight loss but just to feel well!
