    Default pink hair!

I am so bored just being blonde now. Back in the day before I started stripping, I had a mohawk, dreadlocks, butt length braids, a chelsea (shaved head with bangs and sideburns leftover), and all different colored hair. My favorite hair color aside from black or blonde has always been pink. And I've been itching to do it again, although I don't want it to hurt my money.

Well I did some googling for hair I like. I bleached my roots yesterday and then bought some pink Manic Panic and a cool blonde toner. Haven't used either of them yet because I am a little hesitant. I'd use the toner first and then the pink. First off, would there be any conflict there? I haven't used a toner myself before, but there is one on my hair now from a salon job about a month ago. It's a tiny bit darker than the one I bought, so I'll be going a tad lighter.

And second, what does everyone think about these pics? The first one is sort of washed out in the back. I'd do a more vibrant pink, but I like the section idea for the most part as well as the idea of pink in the back and blonde in the front. The second pic is how I'd section the hair exactly (I have bangs), but the bangs would be blonde and the back would be pink. The third pic shows pretty much the colors I'm going for, but in reverse.

I guess I just need to know I'm not insane.

eta: Also, should I use a vinegar rinse? At what point do I do this?

I love it. I've been concidering going with pink hair as well, although it wouldn't fit my look so well, I was gonna do blonde with a few pink streaks underneath, so it showed when I moved my hair. Or maybe purple.

Anyway..I have no technicial advice, just wanted to say I love it and i think you would rock it.

    Pink hair is awesome!
I had pink hair for several months until I went back to blonde recently (needed job interview hair). I still miss the pink. I think you should go for it and then post loads of pink pics.
I did my own for a little while and quite liked it but then got it done professionally and was blown away. Mine was done vivid pink (like the pics you posted) on the roots and then lighter towards the ends. As it faded it faded way more on the ends than the roots so the difference became more and more apparent and I loved how it looked. I think you're right to have some sort of variation in colour.

It'll be very cute! Sometimes, I miss my hot pink peek-a-boos... sigh.

Anyhow, I'd hold off on the vinegar rinses immediately after the color and up to 48 hours. I'd be very careful to keep the toner off the parts I wanted pink- it may cause slight color variations.

    Good Luck!

I miss my pink highlights. They were awesome.

I never used to use toner, I just bleached the shit out of the hair and then pinked it. If you put the Manic Panic on wet hair, it takes the color better. I used to do my highlights with foils on wet hair and then blast it with heat from the blow-dryer for about five minutes, then leave it on for an hour or so before rinsing it out. Cotton Candy lasted about five days to a week that way.

If a 'chelsea' didn't hurt your money pink hair shouldn't either! I think the pink looks gorgeous.

No advice here either, just further encouragement to rawk it. Kembra will love it! Kembra might soon want pink hair of her own to match Mommy's, in fact.

Thanks everyone! I must admit that Kembra's been a little mad at me lately since the day I tried to switch her brand of bottles so maybe this will be a nice peace offering.

I thought for some reason that you use the vinegar as you wash out the color to keep the colors from running together? I guess I'd just make sure the Manic Panic is extra dry. I remember using it before and the best thing for it was to leave it to harden for hours and then apply heat.
I will avoid putting toner on the 'pink area' if it would cause it to look funny then. Thanks!

I never had a chelsea when I stripped, but I did have a mohawk for a short time. It really wasn't very appealing to most guys. I guess because I have "normal" hair now, the pink won't be such a big deal.

    I like the third pic!

I wouldn't worry about bleeding when washing manic panic out. It's really not that strong. Obviously try no to get it on the blond but if it happens just wash it off, it'll be fine.

I used to have pink hair back in high school! When I dyed it I used Special FX atomic pink and it lasted much longer then the Manic Panic. It was pretty much the same color as the 2nd picture if I remember right.
I also used a little bit of the dye mixed into my conditioner and I could go weeks without having to redye the pink b/c of fading.

    Do it! And post pics.

    Just found this:

Call me crazy, but I am gonna use a toner just to even out the color. Right now I am touching up some darker spots with bleach and then I want to even out the overall tone with the toner.
    I will post pics!

I had the exact reverse of the 3rd picture you posted (though I didn't look like a hedgehog)

I bleached the fuck out of my hair... used Special Effects hair dye in Atomic Pink and enjoyed weeks of vibrant, even, pink hair.

    Vinegar rinse???? Huh???

never heard of it- but it makes sense since vinegar is low on the ph scale and, theoretically, can help constrict the cuticle. However, it's also used in a lot of clarifying treatments so the potenial to strip color is what I was worried about. I would tackle the pink first and cover the blonde with conditioner before I start. That will help with any bleeding during application and shampoo. Then cover the pink with conditioner when I apply the toner to the blonde...

^Damn! I wish I had read that before I did the pink. Well...I used cold water, and it didn't bleed too much - just a little on the sides. But it doesn't look bad at all.
    I rather like it!

Here's the pics. The first one is just normal post-blow dry styling. The second is up in a clip. That's how I usually wear my hair around the house and on errands because the baby likes to pull on it.
