Reuters article about the Lusty Lady in SF
I've seen the documentary about the Lusty Lady employees, called "Live Nude Girls Unite." I had no idea that the unionized dancers there ended up buying the joint!
There should be another documentary made, about that.
I've always wondered why there isn't a single female strip club owner around (at least none that I know). I would like to look further into the question.
Thanks for the link, Fred.

thats awesome. more power to them, but i wanna see how long this thing can last without physical looks guidelines, because thats how we make our money. they don't pay us hundreds a day because of our sparkling personality! i think it may turn into a fetish thing, like BBW or pale, or big asses.

I've been to the Lusty and currently work in the same neighborhood. Without hesitation, I can say that I would take my high house fees Deja Vu club over the hourly wage, semen/bleach scented (no kidding) peep show that is the Lusty Lady any day.
Those girls make a fraction of what the girls just downstairs (it's even in the same building) at Hustler make.
Just a thought...
Ugh. Will there ever be a happy medium...??
Besides the Lusty, has anyone ever seen a female-owned strip club?
I guess there are brothels run by "Madames," and that's probably as close as one can get.
Janet and Gary Jackson owned Classy Chassy in Indianapolis. She managed it, and in fact, he was rarely in the club. And when they divorced I'm pretty sure the club was hers. It has different owners now, but back when the Jacksons owned it was easily the best club in this town.

Yes. The Lusty Lady coop people publicly admit that it is more an experiment in sex trade labour relations than a business. That do not attract and do not wish to attract dancers who are focused on money. Fair enough; I mean there is talk here about how we're so pro-sex, sexually empowered, sexually powerful and that we love our jobs; it is perhaps not entirely surprising that there is a small collection of people in a small geographic location who privilege that above making scads of money (although I admit it took a great deal of re-reading for me to come to that conclusion. I kept stalling and thinking "But there is no money!"). I don't think it is a problem until it is held up as a successful sex-trade labour relations story - like on terms other than theirs. Like you have to remember that to the majority of women in the industry - money is the most important factor.

It's cool to see there are a few strip clubs with women owners/managers. I worked for a club that was owned by a father and run by the son and daughter. It was a clean environment with reasonable and fair management (hard to come by in Toronto these days).
Jenny, yeah, I understand what you say about the "re-reading" thing - the lack of money seems to be the price to pay for having control of your club and sticking to non-conventional, non- mainstream ideals!

Camelot in DC is owned by a woman. Used to be her and hubby, but he passed on. However, it is no longer run by this woman. I'm not really sure who's running it now, because from all I've heard, the owner is a sweet old lady, and the way things go doesn't really fit
