    Default Anyone ever have Pneumonia?

I never get coughs, and I can't shake this periodic fever. What else: Some headache (could be from the fever), some but not a great appetite, exhaustion. No muscle pain or weakness. Of course I only took one day off, as it's busy here and I was way, way behind, even before these flu symptoms struck on Sunday.

And I'm supposed to travel next week to the West Coast, too.

What are your symptoms? Just a high fever? A cough? Is the cough a throat cough, or does it rattle in your chest?

If it's the latter, it could be bronchitis. Pneumonia usually has more flu-like symptoms.

    I've had both.

Fever--not too high. Wet, chest cough. No trouble breathing, and no "rattle." (I thank god, again, that I never smoked.)

I'm going to see if I rally over the weekend. If not, I'll see a Dr. on Monday.

With the wet chest cough, I would suggest going to the doctor. How long has the fever lasted?

I feel the need to add that sometimes there is a rattle in your chest that can't be heard without a stethoscope. Waiting over the weekend might NOT be a good idea, especially if you want to travel soon.

(Tempest, please tell me you're wearing a stethoscope!)

The fever started on Sunday. It generally heats up in the mornings, not the evenings, which is odd. I haven't coughed since getting up this morning, however, so I may be getting better.

I don't have one... but buy me one and I'll wear it.

Actually fevers are sometimes higher in the morning. It's not uncommon. But at the same time, if you can kill it with some aspirin go for it! See how you feel tomorrow but I still recommend a doctor!

When are you going on your trip? You know they recycle the air in planes and you could infect everyone with your ick.

I had pneumonia a few years ago. I felt generaly lousy and ran a fever. One morning I woke up and felt like there was a vice around my ribs squeezing the life out of me. I remember the doctor telling me a symptom of pneumonia is a "nonproductive cough" if that helps at all.

    Feel better.

Nonproductive cough = cough where no mucous or nasty sick stuff comes out. When the green/yellow/brown nastiness comes out that's actually a good thing because it means the lung infection is clearing out.

Oh yay. I just read this before trying to eat my sandwich. My appetite is off, but it was off before I read the above. (Besides, who can be mad at a nurse/dancer wearing a stethoscope?)

    Crap--I HATE being sick.

I had pneumonia once..it almost killed me. I ended up in the ER from dehydration..PLEASE go to a Dr now and get chest X-rays so you know. I had a super high fever, was puking til I dry heaved for hours on end and was so weak by the time my friends took me to the ER that I needed a wheelchair..I could barely hold my head up.
This isnt something to screw around with. It came on me suddenly..I was feeling like crap for a day or so beforehand, but I was in Key West and I almost always get sick there after a few days..the coral dust in the air causes upper respitory infections for me. I had no idea it was anything other then my usual KW flu until I woke up at 6 in the morning(about an hour after going to sleep after work) and started puking. My friend found my barely conscious on the bathroom floor when she woke up at 11.

    Go to the Dr. NOW.

I've had pneumonia and walking pneumonia several times...yeah, fun right?

One thing that happened to me every single time was my glands got huge. This may not happen to everyone, but it was a sure sign for me.

I actually didn't cough much, but did feel tight in my chest, and had a nasty fever, and was seriously tired.

Lots of pneumonia going round my area right now. Best to get checked out before travelling. Not only does it suck to be sick while you are not home, but also no need to spew germs on your fellow travellers.

Just got over both B and P. It was nasty. It happened one other time when I was younger. I hope you feel better really soon. I would really have it checked out. Especially with travel.

I've had bronchitis and pnuemonia. HIGH (I had 104) fever, tight chest with pnuemonia-I also had a lot of back pain. 5 days of fever is not good. REST ffs! No dying.

^That actually sounds like what my Dad has right now but he seems to be getting better. He has a productive cough now at least.

Oh, I see ChicagoEditor... take a REAL doctor's advice instead of mine. I'm taking my stethoscope and going home!!!

Have a 3pm Dr. appointment today in the city.

Tempest, you don't HAVE a stethoscope, you said so. I've run rings around you logically.

I could get one quite easily. I would just rather have someone else do it for me because I am LAZY!

    Hot. Sinfully, wonderfully, delectably hot.

For all those monitoring my vital stats....

I'm back from the check-up and I've checked out OK. The doctor says I have the flu--viral--but probably no secondary (bacterial) lung infection. I knew I was OK, but it was nice to have a stethoscope-owning professional confirm it.

I've had pneumonia before, in college. It really sucked. I could barely move for a week!
