    Default Scooters

I want to get a scooter. Something like this:

Does anyone know anything about them? What I really want is a motorcycle but my family and bf are really against that and my mom worries about me unnecessarily already. I figure that a scooter that LOOKS like a motorcycle could quell my urge. I want one to ride around town and, unlike a motorcycle, I don't need a special license or anything. My bf is really against it and he thinks they're dangerous. Where can I look up stats on injuries and stuff?

I rode for many years and really enjoyed all the freedom that went with it.But these little scooters are dangerous to me.Reason being they dont accelerate or brake very well and people just don't pay much attention to them (they are small) when your on the road.Your in a good size city in Calif all the more reason to not ride them.
Road rash hurts real bad!If you decide to get one PLEASE be careful!
Oh I have pictures(of myself) that shows the results of peoples actions who don't pay attention to motorcycle riders.

I had a scooter like that
    I LOVED IT
I never got hurt and i even fell off once when i slipped on ice
Mine got stolen so make sure you have an awesome lock!
    I miss that thing!
I ordered mine off the internet and it came from china in a big huge box to my high rise in the city. It was kinda funny and disastrous when i realized it didn't have the front tire on it. I sweet talked a security guy from my apartment into helping me.
    I always wore a helmet

I had one and I thought it was great! It got me back & forth to work with minimum hassle. 2 weeks later it was stolen. It would have been easier to just give the thief the $850 I paid for it. Loved it when I had it though.

I've heard good things about these people. Some get up to 100mph. Sorry I don't know much about scooter stats.

    scooters are so much fun.

I like to rent them when i go out of the usa because i feel a little silly driving one around here and in a different country it fits in more. They are all over Italy, Spain etc. That mode of transportation of course is much more efficient. Kind of like all the smart cars you see over there. I guess if gas surges any more we may be seeing a new trend of scooters in the USA.

Personally i think they are fun as hell.

YUP CuriousJ hit the nail on the head. I've been riding motorcycle for about 15 years now. Road rash not only hurt's but leaves big nasty scars too. You can get road rash going 5 MPH. you do not need to be going fast.

you are almost invisible to cars. You know most people do not want to hit a rider, but for some reason you become almost invisible to other trafic. You have to be 100% on your game 100% of the time. You are not allowed to make mistakes when you on 2 wheels. The typical mentality around bikers is not if you'll go down but when will you go down. God forbid you ever have to experience a wreck I hope you get a second chance. I know I have been to more then a handfull of funerals.

Yes that was to scare you! Think twice if you really need it.

Any chance I get to brag i use it...Here is my newest one. This is my around town scooter.

Someone on craigslist wants $800 for this one. "Honda Elite 80"... does anyone have any idea on what my counteroffer should be?

I'm a rider. I love anything with 2 wheels. I always tell people that one day I will own my mountain bike, my vespa, my Harley, and my dream crotchrocket... oh yes... I will have THEM ALL...

    Thumbs up Re: Scooters

I used to own a 2001 Bug Bandit before I sold it.

It also got stolen one time yet I was able to recover it (thank you police!).

Plus all the accidents she was in happened whenever I was no where near her - cars backing into her when she is parked in the motorcycle bays, people thinking it is fun to wheel her off her stand and push her over and so forth.

Also, yes, I will re-quote the following as you need to be aware of it:

I bought one way back in 2001 because I wanted a vehicle to get me from A to B yet I really wasn't traveling a big distance so I felt a car was useless. I would only recommend a scooter/moped motorcycle if you are not going to be traveling long distances yet cannot use a bicycle and/or do not want to use the bus.

Otherwise, save up the extra $$$ for car.

If you do end up buying one: rid with your helmet and lights on all the time (if the moped motorcycle/scooter is not pre-set to turn the light on when it starts as was the deal with mine).

I loved Blowfly (yes she had a name).. I really did however I did ride her very cautiously. You will pay for it dearly if you become silly with it.

I can't really speak on the safety of this scooter, but I can say as an absolute fact that you will look ridiculously cute on it. Sorry, that's all I got.
