Ok, so I decided I wanted to post a weekly/bi-weekly poem or quote up in the dressing room(practicing my calligraphy skills).
I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for something short to medium length and uplifting.
Also, if needbe, redirect me.
This is my first installment:
"We" by Janeya K. Hisle
We Women,
We sisters
you and me.
We be rollin' our necks with our hands on our hips.
We be braidin' our hair.
We be paintin' our lips.
We be peekin' our windows 'cause we just gotta see.
But whatever We be…We be beautifully.
We Women,
We sisters
you and me.
We pure gold: We make good Mamas.
And we bold: We bring the drama.
We give a lot.
We play a lot.
We pray a lot cause men stray a lot.
We infiltrate: desegregate.
We complicate.
We instigate.
We always runnin’ late
for a date
but we so great
we know they’ll wait
We Women,
We sisters
you and me.
We love.
We love our mothers.
We love our brothers.
We love each other.
And We strong: We be copin’
And we slick: We be scopin’
And no one knows shoes like We.
And no one knows blues like We.
Cause We earth, moon and stars.
We give birth.
We fix cars.
We cook meals.
We close deals.
We wear pants with high heels.
We got life, love and spirit in all that We do.
We Women,
We sisters
me and you.
