    Default BPD

Is there anyone one here with BPD? I am struggling with the possibility I might have it. I thought maybe Bipolar Rapid Cycler, but that is classified with cycling every 4 weeks. I have them sometimes several times a DAY where I continuously cycle uncontrollably.

I'm also afraid that I will never be diagnosed with it because insurance companies don't cover treatment for personality disorders.

    What I found:

When I first read about it a few years ago it described me perfectly. I've gotten a little better since I've been reading about it but I still meet most of the criteria. I believe my sister has it also, amongst other things....

Honey, you can't self-diagnose yourself from the internetz, you know that. I know things are tough because a doctor isn't affordable. But neither you, nor we, can decide for sure.

I wasn't expecting any diagnoses here. I just wanted to talk with anyone else who is in my shoes or has actually already been diagnosed. And not only is the link accurate, my husband just read it and agreed with it.

Well, having more people who aren't doctors agree still doesn't make it a true diagnosis. Even doctors are hesitant to diagnose BPD. But if it makes you feel better to have found something you think is accurate, more power to you. The next step would be to take action.

Once again, I did not ask for other people to comment to make my thoughts true or false. I just wanted to hear anything from people on SW who have BPD, if there are any.

I know for a fact that nobody has gone into the Depression, Anxiety, or ED threads saying "Well, having more people who aren't doctors agree still doesn't make it a true diagnosis.". I'm sure you'd get a response similar to mine in those threads. Because that's not what we're looking for or suggesting.

I've been truly diagnosed and treated for all of my mental problems, as have most of the people in those threads. Apples: oranges.

    Thank you.

But it's also nice to hear from SW girls as well, thus the reason we have other support threads.

Most of them? Maybe. But not all. I bet there's a LOT of gals in those threads that haven't been professionally diagnosed. And I've already been diagnosed with severe depression years ago, but since doctors are hesitant to diagnose anyone with BPD, I consider the possibility especially since other symptoms are worse.

If you don't understand the thread, don't post.

She does understand since she has dealt with mental problems too. She was just trying to help. I hope you find peace soon with yourself. The feelings you're having are nothing to ignore and as soon as you guys get back on your feet I hope you can find help for them. I know its not fun living day to day like that.

Its nice that you directed BG to those sites, but like she said, she is just looking for the same support that others have gotten when posting about their own personal disorders, such as ED issues. Spank me if I am wrong, but it seems like certain disorders get alot of support here, while others who post are just directed to another site.

We should be supportive regardless of what it is...not cast to the wayside to another site. Some of would rather get support here amoung the friends and people we know rather than a group of strangers so to speak.

BG, all I can offer you hon, is a hug...I can't say I know how you feel, but I know where your coming from.

Thank you very much Sinder, you nailed it right on the head what I started this for. Just like the other "support and recovery" threads we have on here.

My ex has it so I've seen how exhausting and disorietenting and shameful the disorder can feel but it's good you are confronting it. My ex is an ex because he refused to take medication and take his counselling seriously. More power to you!!

Like I posted in The Depression Thread, I don't know if I'm Bipolar or not because when I went back to my base, the military doctors told me I wasn't and weaned me off Depakote. The civilian doctors diagnosed me as BPD II, though. The medication I take right now seems to do the trick and my doctor seems to agree that I just have Depression, General Anxiety, and a Panic Disorder. You can't get medical insurance through your husband's company or apply for Medicaid?

My mom had those patterns of thought and behaviors for as long as I knew her, and according to my father, before I was born. It impacted on her life and relationships constantly for the worse. Diagnosis or no, her #1 mistake in life was refusing to accept that her problems had something to do with herself, and instead logic'ed that it was everyone else, so my point is...

You can still be proud of yourself for having taken the hardest steps. I agree with others who said you'll probably need help with it too, but you've already taken an amazing step in the right direction. And besides, even the diagnosis was different, the issues would be the same. Best of luck with this going forward.

I'm BPD II like Mily...and I get the S.A.D.(I use a lamp at work and home, and a stand-up tanning booth intermittantly). I have tried medication in the past, but went off due to the side effects. I used to have awful anxiety, but used a herbal remedy called Adrena which calmed down my adrenal gland and I've been anxiety free for over a year.

I am able to function well by being mindful of my thoughts and dealing with them as they arise...but winter is tough. Luckily my mania isn't the out of control type...it's hypomania...I'm very productive and energetic at those times. The rest of the time I'm just very patient and tolerant of myself, and accept that I just take care of what I can.

I am just now adding more excercise to my daily routine. I thought I could get by with 3 hours of hockey a week, but I want something everyday. Using a rebounder now.

    Hell, I'll take the leap.

I do feel like certain disorders are more politically correct to talk about than other disorders (ie ED, depression, anxiety) etc. People get very tense when talking about BPD. Depression is often just as accepted in society as having seasonal allergies but being BPD gets the hairy eyeball. Even people with other mental disorders get nervous if someone brings up BPD.

I am BPD with psychotic elements. I have PTSD and anxiety disorder. (I may also have Aspergers syndrome.) I wasn't diagnosed as BPD until I was 20 years old (I am 22). Before then I was diagnosed as depressed from about age 12 on up. This was done because: 1. Often signs of this don't come out until your twenties 2. I spent most of my time depressed 3. It was finally figured out that giving me anti-depressants made me worse. It sent me over the deep-end into a weird, agitated, insomniac, hyper-paranoid state.

I wouldn't be surprised if their as a genetic component to it considering my father, his siblings, and his father all have the same problem.

But there is hope. If it is caught early I think it is the most managable than if you wait to receive treatment later on in life. I am pretty darn functional right now. Most people who would look at me would think I am a pillar of sanity. Only 2 close friends and my parents know about this. As x-damage mentioned the biggest accomplishment is realizing you have a problem, no matter what that problem may be. Simply being cognizant of ones issues helps tremendously. Hockey bob mentioned mindfullness and that has helped me more than any meds I have taken (though I am on a mood stabilizer and anti-psychotic). Mindfullness takes lots of practice and a lifetime to master but it can be done. Mindfullness also helps with other mental disorders and even people who don't have mental disorders. I think mindfullness should be taught to all children in grade school.

I would also like to reiterate that you can't just google something and find out if you have something. I was hospitalized and was seen by 4 different psychiatrists at the time before I was diagnosed. And that doesn't count the different psychiatrists that I saw as an adolescent. So please see a doctor first before anything. Your life depends on it.

Hugs to you BG. I fear I am BPD as well, and havent had the guts to go get diagnosed yet. I have been told I have depression and panic disorder...but this was by reg doctors, not Psychiatrists.

I'm just not ready to have my fears confirmed yet.
