Default I hate to be a beggar... but

At this point I have no choice...

Essentially, I need surgery. I have had a bleeding disorder most of my life which has caused my periods to be extremely heavy and long lasting. I am at the point now where I have been bleeding for the past 4 months, and they want to do a hysterectomy on me to stop it.

I don't have insurance, and I don't have the financial resources to pay for all of it. I am not eligible for any assistance programs, and have been advised that this surgery needs to happen ASAP. I'm anemic to the point that it is starting to affect my heart (resting heart rate is right around 90 at this point)

If anyone is willing or able to help, I have started an account at chip in. My website for chip in is http://brandi.chipin.com/emergency-surgery

I really hate asking this... but I don't have family to speak of and my online friends tend to be my only friends. Thanks for reading..

I am sorry you are going through this.

Is there not a charity source in your state? I mean like they pay a portion and you pay the rest? Or a payment plan?

The actual cost of the surgery including hospital is estimated right around 11K... the help I am seeking is what I can't manage to get covered either by myself or local resources.

Sorry, that is a very tough position to be in.
Sorry to ask but did you go to the county to see if you could enroll in medicare or similar program. I assume you talked to the hospital also.

Can you join a group policy through some employment? Can you get an individual policy and lie about the preexisting condition?

It is possible that a laparoscopic hysterectomy is a very common procedure and the cost in a place like Thailand or India might be much, much cheaper; perhaps $1,000 not counting the ticket to India. I don't know the price, it may be much higher but worth looking at. Airplane ticket to these countries might also be expensive.

have you checked the alternative to the hysterectomy? called endometrial ablation

i had this done because of my bleeding also, i haven't had a period in a year! it should probably last my menstrating lifetime and even if i do start to bleed again, it will be so light it will be nothing to worry about.

there are several methods, balloon, laser and electric.

i had the newest one, and the one that seems to be the most effective. even my friend had it done about 8 months after me because of her bleeding and she's thrilled also.

    here's the link....

    http://www.novasure.com/

you should find a doctor that is familiar with it.

also when you get it, get a d&c at the same time time, that makes it even more effective.

What state are you located in? There is a church in Colorado that raised a lot of money for cancer treatment, but the person they raised it for died. They must spend the money on something similar to what it was raised for, and you might qualify. The last I heard, they still had money left to give away, but I cannot promise you that they still have it.

I'm not eligible for social assistance because I make too much. However, I am also self employed which means no insurance.

Any other communication I ask be via PM. Someone decided to send me harassing emails as a result of this thread and I'd rather not give out more information on an open forum.

You should send the harrassing PMs to a mod. you shouldn't have to put up with that.

there's no way you can't pay for it on a payment plan? or go thru a charity?? i really think you need to call ALL the charities in the world. there should be a social worker at the hosiptal that can help with that.

i know a ton of people that have gotten their surgeries or treatments taken care of with a charity.

also medicaid should also help, if you make too much, but not enough to pay for the procedure then you should be eligable for help.

i think that there is much more that can be done for you help wise and that you really shouldn't be left to come on a forum and ask for help. there are other options, you just have to find them. believe me. there's thousands of charities, churches, ect that are there for things like this. go to your local newspaper and give them your story....keep you head and and keep trying.

GOOD LUCK! my prayers are with you.

I wish you good luck. But, as sassysummer said, I'm shocked that they're suggesting a hysterectomy instead of an endometrial ablation... unless you've had the ablation and it hasn't worked (rare.) If you got a hysterectomy, you'd have to be on hormone replacement all your life.

^unless it was a sub hysterectomy and they're just going to take out the uterus.

as long as she keeps her ovaries she doesn't need to do hormone replacement.

Sorry, I read the OP as "complete hysterectomy" for some reason. D'oh.

Honey..I'm so sorry. My mom is in a similar situation now..needs surgery soon and doesnt have insurance. If I find anything that helps (I"m researching for her already) I will pass it on. If I could afford it right now,I'd send you some money too. Sorry I cant. Keep your chin up....fate wont let someone as sweet as you suffer for long.

I appreciate all the well wishes... truly I do. I have searched and searched for help around here. Churches, charities... the hospital... unfortunately I'm pretty much at the back of the line for most help because I do have a decent income. I haven't given up on that angle yet, just starting to enter panic mode at this point, thats all. If you find anything Cameron... let me know. Thanks.

And yes, they are not looking to take out my ovaries, just my uterus. Partly because of the bleeding, and partly due to my family medical history in that department.

I've been making the rounds at the local charities and getting a lot of "we are out of funding", etc. Even local charaties that help renters are low on funding, one actually recommended a homeless shelter to one of my friends, because they had no funding to help her. Its sad really.
