Default shoes: going from straps to strapless?

I have been dancing for about a year and a half, and I have always worn shoes with regular/standard straps. I'm thinking of finally getting one pair of shoes with no straps (I think they're called mules?), that you just slip on and off.
But I'm afraid of tripping...and especially afraid of twisting an ankle!

Did anyone else start with wearing strapped shoes and then start wearing slip-on ones? How difficult was it to walk and not fall without straps? Does it feel much different, or take a long time of getting used to it?

I tried on another girl's slip-on shoes for a few minutes, and felt like all the muscles in my legs and feet were tensed from trying to balance in them and walk. Is this normal at first; does it go away after awhile?

I think it would be much easier to wear slip-on shoes because I always take my shoes off for dances.

(Sorry if my writing sounds strange; English is my 2nd language. I think I do fairly well, but some people thought I was a 'troll' in another thread. )

Some people have strap-less phobia. I find shoes without straps to be more comfy actually. Especially if we are talking about the kind that are made of the clear plastic, so they kinda grip your feet...

Don't let the strap hold you back!

All you have to do is try some pairs on, find the right size, make sure they are snug but not too snug, and practice walking in them for a minute.

    You'll never need straps again.

I'm one of the strapless shoe-phobics! I'm terrified of the thought that I might twist an ankle, or worse, that the shoe might come flying off while I'm in the middle of a pole trick..

I don't see how twisting ankles and straps relate. You can lose your balance in either type of shoe and twist your ankle. The first time I busted my ass I was wearing a strap shoe and I hurt my ankle a little. It was a similar experience when I busted my ass the second time around and I wasn't wearing a strap. The shoe fell off and I ended up hurting my foot less. So the jury is still out on that correlation

I dunno. I think straps are overrated. I stick with slip on shoes.

Same here. I started off with anklestrapped shoes and they were so annoying. I was constantly aware of the straps sliding around (and they even managed to come off a few times!) and tugging, when I switched to mules I practically felt barefoot, like they were an extension of my body. Yay for strapless!

Just buy a pair and walk around at home. You'll get used to them. I love my slides. There's also ankle exercises you can do to make them stronger.

When I twist my ankle and fall over *often, very very often* in my strapless shoes, my foot kind of slips out of the shoe on its way down. When I wore shoes with straps, the poor foot was stuck for the whole ride down to the ground, and it hurt a lot more, being stuck in that position.

    I love my strapless shoes.

i have the same straplephobia issue, especially since i wear kneee highs at work , but i also take my shoes off for dances, so my solution is buying shoes that have an adjustable back strap that just slips on and off .....these are the ones i have and they are VERY comfortable
These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?

Yeah, I vaguely remember that feeling. I only wore shoes with straps for about a week...HATED THEM. Once I slid into my first pair of slides, it was a rap.

Maybe the feeling is "normal", sorta like taking off your bike's training wheels for the first time, if it isn't, at least you know you're in good company

Sorry 'bout the threadjack, but those are gorgeous! I could incorporate a shoe like that with any "theme" I might have in mind for the night! Where'd you find them??

I like ankle straps for stage because I do some spins around on the pole where my shoes could go flying. But I switch to strapless when I'm not on stage because the toe bed is wider and they are easier to slip off.

I was DEFINITELY a strapless shoe phobic. But, one a strap on one of my shoes just broke and Snaz75 has TONS of pairs I want....all with no straps....so I guess now I'll just have to order them and see for myself!

I'll have to get a pair of each, and see which ends up working better!

Hey, if nothing else, I'll always have a pair of backup shoes!

when the straps on shoes break, you can cut them off of both shoes, and then you have a pair of strapless too.
