Default Can you help me back-up my I-Pod please!!

So I have went on to Apple's web-site and maybe I am a little slow but I can't figure out how to back-up all of my music on I-Tunes. I went and bought the flash drive. So what I know to this point is all you have to do is go into your library on I-tunes and copy a song and then paste it into the new folder on the drive right? It comes up like mp4 or m4p. Does that sound right to you? I know this isn't the tech forum but I noticed someone asking a I-pod question in the past so I thought I would try!
    Thanks

Are you trying to transfer music from your iPod to your computer, or make a backup of music that's already on your computer?

For I-Tunes it is File | Back Up To Disc. It'll ask for additional disks as needed.

If it's from the computer to a flash drive, I would think just moving the files to the flash drive would work. Unless there is some kind of copy protection on the files. You probably don't need to open iTunes to do it, you can just open whatever folder you keep your music in on your computer (I don't like having the iTunes set to automatically organize music; it tends to fuck things up).

Then we need to know which operating system you are using: Windows or OS X?

Yep, that's all there is to it. Just copy the files to back them up. I have ITunes store all files in one folder making it very easy to back up that entire folder.

If the songs have been recorded in MP3, WAV, or AAC format, the songs are already compressed (that is the whole point of these formats, compression). Although it is possible to record them without any compression, generally only die-hard audiophiles do this and you'd know if that was the case.

At 128KB second compression (a fairly common compression rate) a typical "song" will be around 4 million bytes in size. A CD can hold roughly 600-700MBs (depending on a few factors), so your estimate of 100 CDs is far off.

More like 150 songs per CD, so about 6-7 CDs.

At some point you could also consider buying a DVD burner, they are cheap now, then you can back up all songs to 1 or 2 DVDs.
