This happened to me a lot when I was just a babystripper, and I was convinced it was because of the smoke. And my club is a lot less smoky than yours!
I couldn't work 2 nights in a row because of it. I'm very sensitive to cigarettes.
Now I can handle it, but my eyes get really irritated towards the end of the night.
I'm also concerned about the effects on my skin, so I use a lot of antioxidants.
In your case, however, it sounds like the smoke may have just aggravated some other condition- get a strep test!

Sounds like you have tonsilitis... the smoke could have irritated it further. You need some strong antibiotics. See your doc.
I've been there done that and cried a hell of a lot. I couldn't swallow (even saliva) for about two days. Had to get a shot in the butt (cuz I ws in such bad shape). It's not fun. I usually get a hefty dose of Augmentin XR.

yes! the smoke bothers my eyes as well! My throat sometimes.
I am so worried of the long term effects of the second hand smoke too.
Like cancer, rapid aging of skin etc.
I saw a billboard that said that for every half hour of second hand smoke you're inhaling, it's like you smoked one cigarette.
Is this true? Because that's 10-12 ciggies 2-3 times a week!![]()
I wouldn't doubt it. Second hand smoke is more dangerous than first hand.
I just cannot be around smokers for very long. I get very nauseated and my throat hurts.

Yeah Im really bad with smoke, I cant wear contacts if people are smoking, my eyes go bad!
Theres no sense crying over every mistake,
you just keep on trying till you run out of cake
It's probably a combination of smoke and you just happening to have some sort of illness if it's that bad. When NJ had smoking in bars my throat would be nasty after every gig I played with my band. Also when I was a kid, my parents' second hand smoke would irritate my throat badly - got much better when I moved out.
Is Austin not a indoor smoke free city? I thought it was but obviously I'm probably remembering my visit wrong. Or are other dancers just smoking in the bathroom?
Second hand smoke can indeed hurt your throat. ESP when coupled with a loud club environment where you are screaming all night.
Hypocritical, but I'm a smoker and I HATE second hand smoke. It actually bother me more then smoking myself does.

It sounds like something else although I'm sure that the smoke didn't help. There was one time my ear was hurting when I got home from my shift and I figured it was from the loud music but a few hours later I had a full blown ear infection and I was crying it hurt so bad.
Sorry, that was kind of irrelevantbut I'd get it checked out.
I've heard that gargling with cayenne pepper and water really helps if you have a sore throat. Actually I am getting over the flu and have a sore throat and am drinking a tea of honey, apple cider vinegar and cayenne pepper right now, and it is really helping my throat. I googled sore throat, remedy and clicked on the first link which has tons of testimonials from people who have gargled with cayenne, and drinking diluted acv in water is good for detoxing your system.
You could be allergic to the smoke, or just really sensitive, or maybe you are coming down with something? Hope you feel better soon!
