To get hired in SF how "fit" do you need to be? Would you gals say it is easier/harder to get hired depending on your shape? I am asking because I have taken some time off and gained a couple pounds...any suggestions on clubs to get hired at?

Well, I guess it depends on the club, manager and, of course what "a couple of pounds" looks like on you!
I just returned from maternity leave at the end of December and was hired. I have since shed about 12 pounds and have a little more to go, but I'm tall so I carry my weight really well. I had also worked with the GM of my club before, so I think that helped.
Where are you thinking of auditioning? Have you danced before? What is your "look"?

^^^^^Depending on the club!!

Anyone who wants to dance in San Francisco can be rest assured there is a club for ALL types. If I saw a 200 lb woman, or a 50 year old on stage it wouldn't surprise me now. Well, unless those kind of "dancers" were working somewhere like Gold Club or Hustler. I'd be shocked then. Now that I think about it, I was already in shock to see the quality of dancers in Gold Club the last time I was there. They wern't 200 lbs. or 50, just.... not up to the standards I remember. Anyways, my point is anyone can get hired at certain clubs from what I've seen. (Market Street Cinema/Garden of Eden/Roaring 20's)
But try to aim higher, those should be last resorts.

Thanks girls and sorry it took so long!
I used to dance at Centerfolds and at Showgirls about 2 years ago, and before that at Cheetahs in SD. Then I stopped dancing for the boyfriend...I am thinking of going back but I have gained about 8-10 pounds since then, and obviously trying to get it off!!! I may try going back to one of those clubs, but specifically, I do want to eventually audition over at Gold Club.
Thanks for the replys!

I agree with Miss Jessica, San Francisco seems to have a place for everyone. I've seen girls dance that were about 8 months pregnant! If you are really concerned just go into Deja Vu and talk to the hiring manager, they will make you a schedule for clubs they think you will fit into. Once you are in better shape you can always move to a different club. As for Eden, don't knock it! Sometimes being the big fish in a smaller pool means more money, I use to bank dancing there, and I danced at a lot of the clubs in SF.
Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

I'm not knocking the Eden (not completely, LoL) I worked at the 20's on and off for years, so I know what you mean. I loved that shitty little club.
