This is pretty cool...he's a transgender legal male, but still has a vagina and a uterus,so he is having a baby. Apparently he and his wife wanted kids, but she is unable to conceive.

OH never mind I just re-read it.

Okay, here's what I think is weird... if you were TRULY transgendered, would you really feel comfortable keeping your whole female area / reproductive system and go back to being female when it is convenient?
So, are you saying he is not "truly" transgendered?Lots of FTM transgendered do not choose to have genital surgery because of imperfections of surgical technique, or other perfectly valid reasons.
ETA: I understand what you mean, that it would be weird to be "male" and use your female organs to make a baby, but IMO that's like saying gay people shouldn't want kids cause it's not biologically possible to reproduce with someone of the same sex.

My question is how would breastfeeding possibly work?
Guy #1: I'd totally hit that.
Guy #2: Dude, I'd hit that so hard whoever could pull me out would become the King of England.
Although i think it is odd i think its terriable ppl treat him badly when he goes for dr apts and such ppl can be such ass holes.
I see what you are asking - like the (very few) transgendered men I've talked to and all the one's I've heard speak would be very uncomfortable carrying a baby. While MTF tends to be a little more "make your own normal", FTM's generally have pretty rigid ideas about "what is male" and those ideas tend to be... well what you'd expect. Or such has been my experience. But I don't think he views himself as a woman for this purpose. I think he sees himself as a man carrying a child. As for what is "truly" transgendered - relatively few people (I think) view the people who most rigidly conform to stereotype as being the most transgendered. I mean, if you take the trans out of the equation - would I be less truly female than someone who engages more completely with a female stereotype? More truly female than someone who engages with it less? Then why would we expect that from a trans person? There are individuals as well as genders.

Wow. That's crazy.
So he had surgery and has a penis? No vaginal opening? So I'm guessing it was IVF and he's going to have a caesarean?

Lee Mingwei was the first!!!
"...embrace the gamut of human possibility and to define for themselves what is normal."
If only! What an interesting story.
I'm sorry, but that's fucking gross. They can do whatever they want but I can't help being creeped out by it. I guess it takes all kinds in this world.

crazy! I support them.
Men can breastfeed.
I imagine he still has the ability to produce prolactin, the hormone responsible for telling the body to produce milk. I doubt that this person wants breasts though. Perhaps the other mom would want to induce lactation. It is very possible for adoptive moms to breastfeed.

^^ It is entirely possible that they had a full mastectomy, thus no breast tissue. Hard to breastfeed with no actual tissue.
Im confused. Im not seeing on this site that Mr. Lee was a woman - its talking about a pregnant male over and over but without a uterus he cant carry a baby therefor he was once female - right?
And one of the other links on their site seems like something from the future. Now thats scary - real designer babies...
If the glands are there and functional then yes.

The DNA thumbscan on that is disturbing. Esp considering that I got two different readouts when I did it twice..makes me wonder if it is just random. Reading DNA through your laptop? Seems it would be more complex then that...not to mention that they offer the choice to make your child gay or straight...but list homosexuality as a "genetic defect". Not liking that ONE bit.
