The ONE thing about working in Portland that really grates my cheese is this stupid-ass strict scheduling. A manager makes the schedule, you get the shifts you're given, and if you're not on the schedule you can't work. It's nice to have to go to work whether you feel like it or not, but it's so frustrating to be sitting at home when I WANT AND NEED to go to work!
I work at two clubs and I'm at the mercy of whatever shifts are "available." One of them is just an awesome club all around and I really love it there, and I just called for next week's schedule and they forgot I put in a schedule request so I'm not on it. If the manager at my other club decides not to schedule me for four shifts at his club, then I'm going to get behind again.
It was a slow week and I'm behind in bills, and I've got good money goals for each week in April. If I could work four or five days a week like I want to, there's no problem. But it all depends on whether I wind up on the schedule or not, and I have no control over that. I HATE THIS SYSTEM. If I want to work, I should be able to work! Fuck! I hate this.
Why is Portland like this?! I've never seen it anywhere else.

I vented and I feel better. Trying out a new big club tomorrow once I get my schedule for #2, and I talked to the owner of club #1, who didn't realize I was so keen to be scheduled there as much as possible and said she'd call me from now on if she didn't see a schedule request for me. She said she'd call me if there were any cancellations too. So yay!
