Default Anyone have a Siamese, I'm fostering one who won't eat

Her name is Bailey and her owner passed away. The widow has never been a cat person so as soon as her husband died she kept her in secluded area until she felt she just did not want her. I picked her up today and apparently she easy eating fancy feast something or other and she has not touched it. She is very vocal, sweet and gorgeous but she is all hair and bones, I haven't been able to take many pics cause I put her in my room so she can adjust but she is already in my bed and any time I come in she follows me around and meows and loves to have me or the kids pet her, anyway any advice would be welcome and here is a pic of her...

Let it sit. She'll eat it. She's not gonna starve herself to death.

Prolly just bummed out at being in a new place. Put yourself in her shoes (or paws), gotta be tough to deal with all that. Her bud dying, the wicked stepmother ditching her, now she's in a new place.

Just give her some time. Pet her.

    Relax.

Well the thing is that she has been at a foster home for a little time and it's another volunteer, the thing is they asked me to have her to monitor her food intake. With Grayce the otehr kitty, she had a tube so I fed her and now she eats on her own a lot! so now Grayce is in the rest of the house and Bailey is in my room.

She is a real friendly gal, not at the store though, took a few people to get her in the carrier and I got scared! but once here she was a sweet cat. I will wait and see how long it takes her to eat but she is a real fun kitty with the following me and already wanting to come out of the room

As a preteen I adopted a fully grown part Siamese kitty from the Humane Society. Poor guy had such a hard time adjusting to my house. He didn't want to eat and wouldn't nap. I started taking him into my darkened bedroom and just laying near him reading or talking to him. I don't know if that's what helped, but he turned from traumatized meany-pants to a little purr-monster pretty soon.

I know you said the kitty isn't mean, but I think that was part of my kitty's adjustment period.

I don't blame her. I'd be a bitch if someone was shoving me into a box, too!

Just relax. She's not on a hunger strike. She'll eat when she's ready.

EDITED TO ADD: You have to remember that cats are pretty emotional critters. Stuff that we take for granted is big news in their lives. Move a cat to a new place and it's a massive deal to them, if not to us. Cats adapt, but they are not little humans. They are cats. Cats react like cats.

ugh. fancy feast. well if you're fostering there's probably not extra money for good stuff.

coconut oil is really helpful for getting dogs and cats to eat. you can even put it in their water. and if your cat is so finicky that doesn't work there's so much to do with coconut oil you will use it.

but yeah-- dogs and cats love it and it has a lot of good fat.

I Sing this to my cats all the time, cause they remind me of this song.

    Anyway.
Go to the pet store and buy Purina Pro PLan Tuna in Aspic. It's like, actual fish heads in this gelatinous stuff, and cats go crazy for it. Try that.

Actually, what I would do is lock her in a bedromo or other small, quiet place, where she can adjust and get used to her surroundings. Give her a place to hid like a cardboard box, put a blanket in there so it's nice an comfy and leave the food out. I bet by the morning it'll be gone. zZSh's probably just overwhelmed and shy right now.

My mom has the Siamese. Had him since about 4 weeks old. It was our cat until I moved out. He was a handful. He's a weirdo little cat. It seems most are like that. All dual personality like. Lucky, you got a friendly one.

The cat is probably freaked out from being from house to house with the original house having an unloving owner. Poor thing being stowed away in the wash room. You could try switching up food or feed it a small meal of plain boiled chicken and white rice.

    oh, i forgot

or you can get the spray version.

this helps because the product mimics the pheromones in mama cat milk and helps them calm down and get adjusted to new environments.

Wow! thanks. I have some of that Purina Pro Plan Tuna in Aspic cause when Grayce wasn't eating I was recommended to use that. I didn't want to really switch this kitty from her "normal" food but, seems she touched her little food, dude it looks so gross it's the white meat chicken Florentine in delicate sauce with garden greens, looks lik ebad chicken salad ewww, I wouldn't want to eat that either, I will try the other and the coconut oil.

I was watching tv in my room and she just snuggled with me, she doesn't like to be picked up but she likes to climb on you so yeah. Also very curious, until she sees the dog, once she sees the dog she kinda runs the other way.

I've had two Siamese for about 8 years. Their favorite and most well tolerated food seems to be an organic grain-free dry diet.

This is simply not true. Some cats who refuse to eat simply WILL starve themselves. It's actually a common thing in shelters.

Fuck! You are killing me with all these poor, sweet, sad kitties that are dying and won't eat and are meowing and need love.

    Waaah!

    This is not helping...

The one thing I can say is, Siamese are definitely a bit more complex I think than other kitties, maybe more emotional. They talk more, which to me means they are trying to communicate, which means they are more emotional.

Also they tend to really bond with one person and be very loyal, kind of like dogs do.

My guess is, she's stressed at the new house, still traumatized by the isolation, and especially by her master dying on her. Give her time, like Grayce I think she will respond to the genuine love you are showing her, and find a reason to live--and therefore eat.

Now I am going to have to go to the Kitty Heaven shelter again, even if I was just there yesterday--except they will close early tomorrow, so I will have to suffer another day. Please pet her some for me!

I dont know if this will help, HHL, but...

I once found a cat under my car. Very thin and sickly. I took her home and she refused to eat and I took hr to the vet and they gave me the science diet I think its A&D or somethign like that, it's the weight gain food. Now..My experience is cats do not liek he taste of this and won't eat it, but anyway. The vet told me that this stuff is made so it mixes well with water and that I should mix a bit of it with water and use a syringe to force feed her a little every day. I did thatfor about a week and eventually, she started to eat on her own. Ithink she was just starved and forgot to be hungry? So afetr she started being fed again, she remembered she how to be hungry again and started wanting to eat. She gained a lot of weight after that, became a beautful healthy cat, all black, i named her Penelope. She was very sweetnad lioving and when she got healthy I gave her a good home. But anyway...maybe try that?

YES thanks Kaylinn, you're right! Syringe feeding! Not Science Diet, in my opinion, but probably some nice raw food like liver in a pate? THAT would be nice and healthy and raw liver is pretty cheap. Although the blending is kinda .
