    Default Parking In San Francisco??

    Read the signs very carefully!!!

On Friday night, I scored a sweet spot on the street. It was fine, I assured myself, because I had just parked there earlier in the week. After work, I returned to find my car missing!! Lo and behold, the Department of Public Transportation starts towing cars from spots on that street at 8PM on Fridays.

It cost me $280 to get my car. To add insult to injury, there was a $60 "Parking Prohibited" ticket on my car when I picked it up!! In all, paid more than I took home...it wasn't a great night at work.

I will be using the valet at the club everytime I drive from now on.

Lovely. I feel your pain, especially since it cancelled out your earnings for the night. I've been towed once, and it cost hundreds of dollars. And there's nothing you can do, you just have to suck it up and pay them.

    Yuck !!

This happened to me a few years ago in S.F.

I got the ticket after parking at around 2a.m. or so and after 6a.m. , they want cars moved to the other side of street for street sweeping. How in the hell do they expect you to read those signs that closely. You would literally have to be right in front ( I mean within 3 feet of the thing ) to see the full set of rules.

S.F. parking is so bad. I never drive in the city anymore .

You might want to try and fight your ticket if the $60 seems worth a call or letter. Another traveler told me they got out of theirs easily ( I was really suprised ... I didn't even think to try that with mine ) .

that was my automatic thought, too. i've heard that the people who do the actual towing cheer right as the clock strikes 8 p.m. i guess they make $50 per towed car.

I read the city has 800 $100K+ for 800,000 people. That means taxes and fees on every 1,000 city dwellers to get that 100K (and then some.)

Be prepared for much towing, much metering, and much fee'in in any way possible.

Yes, I was parked on Broadway.

I actually parked up there again last night, because my club doesn't have valet on Monday nights. You know I read and re-read the signs and put a little extra in the meter before going to work.
