Default pasties and the general public

So I'm going to an outdoor techno festival in detroit this summer and want to know if it's legal to wear just pasties on your breasts. I know it sounds kinda whorish..but that's what the festival vibes put out. Plus I've got the new girls to display. I was thinking of doing this just one day or at one of the night parties. Is it legal to wear just pasties on top. When I was in NYC for the Howard Stern Fairwell there was a girl wearing just stickers. She didn't get in trouble. I know it's probably varying city to city so I was just curious if anyone knew in particular about D-town. I've tried googling it, but had no success.

Maybe check in club chat? If you can edit this to put 'detroit' in the title, it might get better hits.

In a lot of places pasties = clothed, so while you're wearing very little you are actually legal. A quick Google search made it look like it's on a city-by-city basis in Michigan (as in most places).

Just keep a tiny bikini top with you in case cops come around. Honestly, I think boobs are going to be the last thing they're looking for at this kind of party.

I agree with MrsW, I wouldn't worry but maybe bring a little bikini top in case. I know at Ozzfest and a few others I've been to here there are girls walking around in only body paint on their boobs and no one said anything.

I used to travel the country getting nearly naked on street corners as an activist, so I've researched nearly every state and major municipality. Most states require only a fully opaque covering of the nipple or areola, although a few require covering everything below the top of the areola.

Fun fact: due to the work of the Rochester 7, it is completely legal to be completely topfree in the State of New York. These women held a topfree picnic and were arrested (while their male counterparts were not). They took their case all the way to the state supreme court and won under the 14th amendment, which allows for equal protection under the law.

I've gone to a festival wearing nothing but bullseye targets painted over my nips. However, topless is legal here. Sigh, I know my new BF wouldn't be cool enough for anything of that sort.

Maybe it is technically illegal, but if will probably be one of those " look , look , look , look...... then look the other way " things.

I've lived in Detroit and I've been privy to festival events ( I lived in a loft above an art gallery....said gallery had after festival raves). It may be safe and kosher in other areas, but I wouldn't feel safe doing pastie only in Detroit. It would probably be cool at the right after parties.

Woot!! A techno festival? Knock yourself out. The thing that I love about these things is that a million people there are BOUND to look sluttier/crazier than you, so it's a fun costume free-for-all. I wear like 0 clothes and fairy wings when I go.

I'd say it depends a lot on the kind of festival. But, as a general rule, there isn't much busting for nudity in event circumstances when the nude isn't making money off of it.

You remind me of the time I went to Burningman and my entire wardrobe consisted of a pair of shorts, fresh undies daily, and SPF 45 sunblock. =) This was before I ever danced.

A few months later I went to a party and this guy and I kept having this ... "I know I met you somewhere, but where?" reaction. I finally mentioned that I'd been to Burningman, and visited our mutual friend's camp there.

"Ahh," he said. "So this is what you look like with clothes on!"

Amusing that I've gotten the same reaction since then from custies in grocery stores. Heh.

This follows a precedent in Oregon. As a photographer explained it to me once, nudity in public is OK if it is not with "lewd intent" -- the boundaries of lewd intent being a little difficult to define, though.

All of this hairsplitting around areolae makes me wonder how the lawmakers would react to a witch's nipple...

I'm pretty much aiming for after parties. We're staying in a nice hotel there, and some parties are close. I was thinking of wearing a junky shirt there and back and sporting the pasties at the party. E will be with me, so I'll feel somewhat safe. Although, I don't really like being in Detroit as it is. It's very much his thing and I'm along for the ride.

If you hear of it, check out Johanson-Charles Gallery on Division Street in the Eastern Market. It's been three years since I was last there, but Kevin Hanson was running things when I lived there. Any party of his would be pastie-safe.

Here is a site that has the laws for a lot of states that might help.
    http://www.nudist-resorts.org/statutes.htm
South carolina to me is one of the worse. As has been said there it is against the law to show anything below the top of the aureola. For a man it is against the law to wear a pair of paints that that show his penis in a erect or simi erect state. They have made the news for arresting men for wearing bike paints and tourist for wearing speedos Give me a break !!!
