    Default some racist shit

So I went on scl (strip club list) just to see what people had to say about some of the clubs here in town. I'm bouncing around and wanted to get a customers opinion. EVERY CLUB that I clicked on for comments had derogatory comments about black people. Talking about dancers, hosts, clubs that play rap. I knew that it is hard for women of color to make money in this town but I didn't think it ran that deep.Just a few days ago I was at the bar of a new place I been working, and this black guy walks up, gives me a 20$ and says, "I'm giving this to you because you are beautiful but you'll wont make big money here" so I ask why he th"thought"so, and he's like because your a black girl.I was in no mood to go any further with the conversation so left it at that thanked him for the 20$ and went my way.I dont know what to say but all this shit really gets me down.I been shaking it off for years but dammit it still gets under my skin from time to time.

There is nothing like leaving this entire country to really feel how racist America can be. Classism tends to show itself in every culture, but, as a Black American, there is nowhere that I 'feel' more unwelcome as a Black person, by virtue of nothing more than being black, than America. It does not go away, even after I speak and my education becomes apparent.

Any guardedness I have encountered in other countries I've visited tends to dissipate once my command of the host country's language or my native English has been established. (I realize that this could be a result of a sort of positive racism because, outside of America, I am American first, then Black, so I am being treated according to how they view a well-spoken, educated AMERICAN). On the contrary, there are people I've grown up with in sunny California who 'showed' me their true face after years of being friends/acquaintances and felt I could hear them spout their offensive beliefs because "I wasn't like the rest." (?)

There is a close latina female friend of mine, who I'm friends with to this day, who at about 13 or 14 said in a moment of candid honesty, " Growing up, I used to wish I were black. I love how differently you can fix your hair, black culture, the music, skin tone, etc...." And now? "But, shit, you guys have it HARD....." I didn't venture to find out how she came to this conclusion.

I knew intuitively that she had increasingly become privy to plenty of 'inside jokes' growing up that I was spared from as her other non-black peers probably felt they could just 'let loose' amongst each other. The internet, with its inherent anonymity, strips away this need for keeping mum in regards to the kind of talk that would otherwise go on when 'the elephant ISN'T in the room', so to speak.

I would just remember that, for as much negativity that is dispersed throughout the net, the decent people who exist are not always the most vocal yet will continue to spend their money on whom they see fit to receive it-----and they'll be damned what color her skin is! Keep smiling and always 'do you'!

Oh, my god, that's just all kinds of fucked up. I'm so sorry to hear about that. What the fuck?

SCL is full of shits of all types; I would pay no mind to any of it. It doesn't make it right, but posts on there frequently bear absolutely no relation to the reality of the club being discussed.

And I'm just really, really sad and sorry every time I read something like this.

It is so fucked up. I can remember incidents involving dancers at my clubs but you would not believe how many times I've heard customers make racist comments about the bouncers. We had one black bouncer whose job it was to patrol the couch room and I can't tell you the racist things that customers would say about him. I never knew how to react but eventually I just started saying to them: "He fucks like a machine."

It's hard to ignore ignorant people when there's so many of them.

Makes me want to beat them down like zombies. Hm.

Its so messed up that black on black hate is prevalent in society today. Pure, its just one persons view is and sadly he decided to express how ignorant he was to you at the time. Sometimes words like his just stick for a bit. They'll go away in time.

Well... I'll sit here and feel disgusted by the human race with you. Anytime.

It's sickening what people will say/do when they're in an environment where they think no one is paying attention to what assholes they are.

First, I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems w/racism in clubs.

However, I don't really think the guy was being racist towards you. I think he was sincerely trying to compliment you and almost, in a sense, trying to give you a "heads up" that you might want to switch to a better club where you would earn as much as you deserve...

I'm in total agreeance here. Sometimes customers really do think they are giving you a headsup, especially those types that are "regular" clubmembers. They see the "types" that come and go in their club...maybe he was just making an observation. I personally would've appreciated his opinion, but I wouldn't put to much into it...

Exactly. They always think they know so much and love to tell us how things go and how to do our jobs. Let it go in one ear and out the other.

Thanks for comiserating with me for a moment...... and to be clear, I didn't interpret the customers comments as racist. CK, you hit it right on the head, he was a regular who had seen the club through name changes ,new manegement and things like that. I wasn't really offended by his comment, it was just such a sad reminder of the way things are. That, combined with what I read on SCL just got me down.

Black dancers will ALWAYS have to deal with racism and stereotypes. Black dancers will also have to work 3 times as hard to make as much money as a non Black dancer. That won't ever change honey! It is what it is. Only Black dancers can truly understand where your coming from and feel your pain, and that's the bottom line.
Plenty of non Black dancers like to believe that that's not true but of course they would. It's not their reality yanno.

So unfortunately, just expect the worse and hope for the best.

Oh, I definitely believe it's true. I've seen it in action too many times not to believe it. I also think a non-black dancer can certainly agree with a black dancer that racism is both revolting and heartbreaking. I've missed out on countless dances because I walked away when some prick started on some racist shit that wasn't even about me and it was worth it every time. I'm not looking for a cookie or anything, but I do believe that standing up against this stuff is on all of us.

I'm sorry honey, that sucks. It always pisses me off when someone says something racist to me and assumes I'll agree with them because I'm white.Like it's an "us against them" mentality.

I cant tell you how many guys in the club(white AND black) have asked "you've never fucked a BLACK guy have you?" Like it's SOOO out there I couldnt POSSIBLY have done THAT. They back off real quick when I say that not only have I,many times, but I have quite a few on DVD to prove it.

    Fuck them.

Completely agreed. I am also a black dancer and I have been told by a few regular club goers and some dancers that "black girls don't do well/don't last long here". I normally end up running circles around everyone and often the dancers are shocked and even upset that a "black girl" can earn more money than they did. Then it was immediatly assumed that I am giving bare back blow jobs and fucking in the VIP in order for me to have done so well since it's impossible for me to have did it on pure looks and charm alone.

It is true that I have lasted much longer and have done much better than most black girls at the clubs I have been in and have lasted longer at clubs, but I think that it has to do with my comfort level. I am probably just more comfortable around white people than many other black people and I have a thick skin.

I would just ignore the stuff on SCL. SCL tends to attrack the biggest a--holes in the world. I never had to deal with too much ---- from the customers (I honestly didn't get very many racist comments to my face at all and the few I did I had them kicked out, I tipped the bouncers well.) The internent is a place where all the "Oh, I am sooo not racist! Some of my best friends are black! Racism is dead and any problems you may have are imagined/your fault!" folks feel that they can vent all their ugly ---- without repercussion. You see the same thing on youtube whenever a black persion is featured in a video.

But overall I would say that I had to deal with more ---- from the strip club managers (with their narrow minded hiring practices with the whole token black girl who is a 9-10 but hiring any white girl who is a 3 and above) and dancers who are in disbelief that someone with obvious african blood could possibly make more money than they did. Customers were way down on the list from those 2.

Racism is everywhere....my ethnicity is so ambiguous I get everything from sicilian to black, to are you a pacific islander? WTF? I've heard I always wanted to fuck a brown skin girl.

Once during a peep show I got...."wow, your pussies not pink like all the white girls." WTF? It's weird. I don't know....I never really tell people what i am. I let the white ones think I'm a tan white girl, the hispanics think I am hispanic, the natives think I'm native and so forth.

People are stupid. Let them be, they don't want to be enlightened or have any idea of what reality is. Reality is they might even share your smae genetic markers.

Look up the human genome project and bring it up with the racist customers. Mostly they'll jsut sit there with their mouths open then they'll be doing the WTF thing.

I've noticed everyone can be racist, no matter what thier background. I've seen it from every race to every race especially in strip clubs . But remember, some comments really are just statements of society- last night in the dressing room i got shit for saying i dont like dancing for mexicans, and one girl is like "i'm part mexican, what are you saying?". I asked her what strip clubs are like in mexico, and she said "they're brothels" and i said "exactly so what do you think they will expect here?" She appoligized, for calling me racist. If someone really is racist, then they arent going to really know anything they are trying to talk about- obviously they are in the habit of making assumptions.

    I HATE that shit.

Seriously, seriously, seriously hate it. And I fucking hate casual racism in everyday settings as well. Like, I don't want to be a part of this bullshit! I call ignorant motherfuckers out every single time. Sorry for my language, but I hate people assuming that because my coloration = their coloration, that I am just as ignorant and pigheaded as they are.

I got a tiny little taste of discrimination while growing up in my majority mixed Asian community. During school, a lot of the kids would call me whitey and exclude me and run around with "Azn Pryde" all over their notebooks and stuff. Most of them have grown up, but some haven't. Either way, that's such a tiny fraction of what other minority groups experience for a lifetime, and I can't fathom how wearing it would become.

In my Abnormal Psych. book in the chapter about psychophysiological disorders, it mentions that African Americans have the highest levels of hypertension, and numerous studies have shown a correlation between exposure to discrimination, stress, and health problems. I'm not surprised.

#1 hate? People that insist that racism is "extinct" in this country. Can someone lend me a shotgun plz?

So get this...tonight was supposed to be my first shift back to work after not seriously working in a club for about 3 years. I checked out a place where my best friend works on a Monday night, and was encouraged by the manager to come back during the day to audition. (Should that have been my first sign...having to come back to try out?) I go back on Wednesday day and get hired...and set to start on Saturday.

This is after a good conversation with the manager about overt racism I've experienced in clubs recently and after having to show my him my mid-riff in the bright office light because he thought the top I was wearing made me look heavier than I am.

So tonight arrives, I go in w/ my friend and dance 1 stage set, make a few rounds and wait to go up again. My name is never called; so I go to the DJ booth, my name is marked off the board and the DJ says I have to talk to this other manager I never met. Long story short, some phantom regional manager I never saw or met, saw my stage set and "didn't like what he saw." Yes....they have other black girls there...but I was the darkest black girl. (Is there any method to this madness?)

When I challenged him for a reason(looks, body, presentation of self), this fat fucker told me, maybe I could lose some weight--a cop out in my opinion. When I challenged him again w/ the fact that I'm in the gym 4 times a week (flexing my biceps, pulling up my dress and showing the goods), he wilted and said I could call to talk to the guy who made this choice. Yes, I'm a little bigger than what I want to be right now..but only by 7 pounds or so--winter weight. I'm toned, I'm pretty, I'm smart and I'm not just tooting my own horn.

How can one tell if it REALLY is race, or something else? This has happened to me alot latley at other clubs and I don't get it. What am I doing wrong? I feel like I'll have to be reduced to going to some of the worst places in town to work but I also feel like I have something to prove to these "upscale" bastards as well as myself. One other mgr and some of the girls were shocked, too. Should I just give up and swim with the fish instead of going against them? Sorry for the long message but this really gets me, I'm getting a chip on my shoulder and feeling racist against whites... something I don't want to be or feel.

    PB007,

I'm so sorry that's happening to you. It's not right, and it's not fair. I can't even begin to imagine dealing with that kind of racism. Keep your chin up, you'll find a club.

Montreal is a lot worse. I helped two of my formers students move there, both of whom are very Black and from West Africa. They are also both blind and need to use their canes to get round. The kind of discrimination they faced they was disgusting. People passing them on the stree would look at them with disgust. No one would help open a door for them, or help them get around. I could go on. They are very anti immigrant there. Someone sprayed swaztikas in their neighborhood. In the USA this would have made news. In Montreal that crap stayed up for three months.
