Default Please help me shop for job interview clothes!

I'm about to graduate college, and I need a job interview suit. However, I'm new at this looking professional thing. There's a sale at Victoria's Secret, and I like the looks of this skirtsuit. Is a skirt okay for a job interview, or should I go with this pantsuit? In a pinch, would a pinstripe pencil skirt and a tailored button-up shirt do?

I think both of those outfits would be approiate for a job interview. If I had to pick between them I would go for the pin stripe skirt though! Good luck!

Also, should I get pinstripe, plain black, or gray? I'm looking for professionalism and versatility here.

I would do black for now for the skirt. You can add color on top. Someone told me blue is a common color of shirt people get hired in. As for the pants I would do gray. You could pair a different colored jacket for the top when you want to.

So a skirt isn't considered too slutty? Eh, it wouldn't be slutty on me at least. I'm only 5'3", so the skirts on those tall models would come well below the knees on me.

Okay, I'm getting the skirtsuit. Hmm, I'm still debating pinstripe vs. plain black. I only need one suit now, as I'm only going to need it for interviews. I'm going to be an RN soon, so I don't need more office clothes. Yay for scrubs!

Also, about the blazer: should I get the long blazer (pictured with skirt) or the 2-button? I like the cut of the long one, but the 2-button seems more versatile.

I'm going with plain black, by the way.

If you are anywhere near a TJ Maxx or Marshalls I've been noticing a huuuge influx of Tahari and Theory brand suits. I had a Victoria's Secret suit before and the quality was about the same as a crappy suit I could have bought in a juniors department somewhere. Maybe they have changed. It doesn't make sense to spend a lot on a suit if you are only going to wear it to an interview but if you are near those two stores I'd definitely give it a look. I think blazers for Theory (my favorite) were 60-80 and pants/skirts were 30-40 but usually they are a few hundred and the quality and fit I felt were excellent even for shorties like us (I'm 5'2")

I would say go for the shorter jacket. The one that would fall about just above hip length. About that length should elongate your frame. Don't want to end up making your clothes look oversized. I have also seen that petite frames should stick to one color block to make you look taller.

Oh yea, a friend went shopping at http://www.nyandcompany.com/nyco/ and got many versatile pieces for good prices.

Thanks for the info. I too hate cheap flimsy synthetics. My grandma taught me how to sew, and she made me appreciate good fabrics.

I'm about to order the black pencil skirt with the black 2-button blazer. I found a coupon code that gives free shipping and returns, so I'm going to try the suit risk-free.

For good work pants, I can't say enough good things about the Editor Pant at Express. They come in awesome patterns and solids, hang wonderfully, can be washed on gentle (hang dry) and last forEVer. I've had some for 4+ years that have been washed a hundred times, and they not only look new, they still have the pleat!

The pants are not cheap--$80 new--but totally worth it. Look for them in the 63% polyester/ 33% rayon combination. (I've had another couple pairs of pants in a fabric that was more spandexy--but developed pilling that would literally chafe my ass bloody. Not good!) They can also be had for less if you have a coupon or shop the clearance racks at the end of the season.

    I 2nd the express sales

also- they often do coupons for trying a certain item on, recently it was mens shirts. I always ask for the coupon

I would do a medium gray pant with a vibrant blue silk button down, and gray pumps and heels.

I LOVED my express suit. It fit great, felt great and lasted FOREVER. I say black suit, no pinstripe. Either go with a white button down shirt or a white button down with light blue pinstripes. Blue is a power color, that is why more people are hired in that color than any other. I took a public speaking a interview course and EVERYONE recommends blue. I also had good luck in it. I wore a black suit with light blue shirt.

Other things to remember, use a firm handshake and never cross your arms. Crossing your arms lets off a signal that you are closed to ideas The best place for arms in front one hand over the other on the knee. Or if you can relax them palm up in your lap. Awkard I know, but studies shows it helps.
Always appear confident with a genuine smile. It's not just the suit that gets you hired. BEST OF LUCK!!!

Definitely go for the skirt suit in a dark solid color. It is considered more traditional and appropriate.

Yes , Express is the way to go if you have one near you. I HATE shopping and this store makes it SO EASY. Go on a slow day and the girls are so incredibly helpful ( like do everything for you helpful .... they will find you other sizes and make your shopping not suck at all) .

I can't recommmend them enough . You can find cheaper clothes, but their clothes really last. Av. is right too - the pleats in the pants last forever and make them look really polished. The customer service there is awesome.

Those look nice. I agree that the pinstripe would probably be your better option. Banana has some very nice suits and some of their stores do carry petite sizes.

I second the Editor pant. I bought a pair last week and they are the best effin' fitting pants...low on hips, slim but not sausage-like through thighs, and straight legged. I think they'd be flattering on anyone.

I am also a big fan of the editor pant from Express. However, you should always have a really good interview suit. I have found that Ann Taylor (not Loft) is great for a standard, conservative interview suit. I usually have to have Ann Taylor suits tailored, but they last forever if you take care of them.

Wow thanks for the heads up. I was actually thinking of applying there part-time just for fun and discounts.
