    Zen

Okay, so I haven't been doing great lately. I haven't even broken $100. So tonight I told myself, if I don't make at least $100, I'm hanging up my heels and finding a new job. Well, maybe subconsiounsly I worked harder, or maybe it was fate, or maybe, I'm just too damn lazy to find a new job, but I banked. A few things I realized I did differently after work:

If a guy is abrasive, let it go. It takes more energy to "get even".

Be sweet to everyone, even jerks. At the end of the night you have all their money, and that revenge is even sweeter than kicking them in the balls.

Don't judge. When a customer asks for a dance or vip and says "Will you be worth it?" or "Wanna wrestle?" or something, expect the best out of everyone and collect your money up front, just in case.

Ask the manager for a pep talk. It's his freaking job. He'll probably be happy to be helpful and feel proud when you make money.

Even when a customer says "No thank you" to a dance it's not going to be the same answer after you change your outfit, sit with him a bit, go on stage or wait 20 minutes.

Have fun on stage. You're being worshipped. Every man in that room paid good money to drool over you. Act like it, and enjoy yourself.

    Contributions, ladies?

Yeah, I never knew it was a manager's job to give pep talks upon request. The managers here would probably tell you to f off and get back on the floor, lol.

Maybe I'm lucky? Well, there are probably still other people in the club that could would do it. Or a phone call to a SO or friend.

We have meetings EVERY Saturday before work telling us how to improve, to be the best, you're all beautiful, take their money, etc.... It's really motivating! I work in a small club though (12-20 girls) But that's what I love about it. Everyone watches out for each other. But Perry I liked your advice. it takes too much good energy away to fret over assholes.

^^ We have them often too. That's what I love about my club - it's got this big dysfuntional family feel to it. It's small, a little divey and the money isn't always great but it's clean and friendly.

The managers have always been understanding and nice so most of the dancers are willing to pick up extra shifts or help out with promos and events. I've been on the radio to help promote the place. I was paid in beer and tofu dogs, lol.

I definitely admire the positive energy. That's really the only thing you have to do to be successful is keep thinking positive, even in the face of adversity.

Beer and tofu dogs?? That's awesome! I did radio ads for two of the clubs I worked at in the SF Bay Area in Northern Cali.

I used to view it as an integral part of my job, giving pep talks or trying to cheer up/psyche up dancers so they would feel good and make more money. Then I started working with a lot of foreign women, they had a hard time figuring out what the hell I was trying to tell them, lol...

Actually it still worked on occasion. Now I am back working with more American women (though there are still a LOT of foreign dancers), so have been doing it more again. In the last club I worked in in Daytona it was sometimes vitally necessary, some of those poor women were shell-shocked, and I mean that literally.

Other than the pep talk idea (which is cool), I love what you have to say about maintaining a calm and unruffled, 'Zen' way of working. It would help me a lot if I could also remember and use this attitude. The clubs are full of stress of all kinds, and constant sexual/psychological power games from every direction. The person that can rise above all this will be happier and make more money, no question about it.

Sorry, I just woke up and can't get back to sleep--this is like the middle of the night for me, so I am not so lucid here. But I like what you have to say!

This is something I make a point of doing every night I work, and I never understood why other dancer's don't. I've noticed a particular girl who tends to complain on stage that she's bored, to customers even.

Customers tend to tell me that they like my attitude, my smile, that I seem like I'm having fun. What customer wants to dance with a bored dancer over one who seems like she'd be fun?!?!?

Something that has helped me in the past is to constantly remind myself that I am AT WORK. I'd stay on my game by making sure I was therefore always working. If I started getting lazy, it would be the beginning of a long downward spiral and my whole night will be shot before I knew it, so I'd just keep asking myself if there wasn't something I could be doing to further my own goals. I'd also take mini-breaks to reward myself... go decompress for a few minutes in the DR, sit with one of those club regulars who are generally useless but good for the morale for a little while, that kind of thing... and put a song limit on it so I didn't get sucked in and stay all night.

I might be the opposite of you... I get too zen, it's all over.

Awesome! Though I admit, taking the jerks down a peg perks me up. When I used to smile and let it slide when they said something rude it would eat away at me all night until I was brooding in the back. Now I give a witty reply telling them to go fuck themselves and can forget about them and move on.

My one club..the bouncers and managers prob would give me a pep talk if I asked...sometimes they do it on their own when they see I'm frustrated(this is why I love working in Key West!). But I've never thought to ASK. I usually call my husband for a pep talk when I need one...but I think I will try this. Staff will be more awake and can do it better!LOL

Really, I believe all of my managers have been very helpful in my 2yrs dancing. They always seemed very supportive (of me at least) towards me. I don't think I'd work long at a club where the manager would tell me to f off and get on the floor. I don't like that kind of abuse...

This is an awesome thread! So positive and upbeat. I'm glad to see the tide turning around here.

I agree that not expending energy on negativity is good for business. Sometimes things just get under your skin, and that can be difficult to let go. When I can't let go of the negativity I just usually give up for the day and try again tomorrow.

OK, so I literally just slept for a whole day, no joke. I know it's because my energy has been totally drained from reacting to assholes. I have also had one of those stressful few weeks. Tuesday night was the nail on the coffin. I went to bed around 3 a.m and didn't wake up until 10:30 this morning. I feel refreshed, and what I need is a different outlook. I am going to try this "zen" tonight. Wish me luck.

Zen tottally works, its kind of like that thread about a routine before you go to work. Repeat a mantra that you wrote down and put in your purse

Fuck going out and partying, etc., I have a hot date with my pillow, thanks...

Haha! The first time I met Cameron she was doing this, some fucking idiot kept trying to show her his penis and going on about how she'd 'never be the same again', etc. Well I guess he actually did somehow show her by pulling his pants waistband out or something and he had a teeny little peeny and she proceeded to rip him to shreds while smiling the whole time. Forgive me if I got that story wrong somehow Cameron--but I do know he was an asshole, you tore him a new one, and you were smiling, confident, professional and completely unruffled. I was having a bit of trouble selling a dance tonight so I asked another dancer for a pep talk. She said say, "Hi! I wanna grind on your balls!" At first I was like, I can't say that! But I did and no one said no to it!
Then the manager added, don't ask if he wants another dance ask, "Wow! You have a really big cock! Can I keep dancing on it?"

When you remember that we're selling a fantasy and say something raunchy that the customer isn't ready for, you take total control of the situation. You've flattered him, thrown him off gaurd and made him have a lot of fun without ever really doing anything.
