My friend Sherry Britton died yesterday. She was a stripper in the 1940s and a very dear friend and a great supporter of the burlesque community and of ladies in the industry in general. She told some of the saltiest tales and said some of the most hilariously filthy things under her breath at shows you have ever heard. She was one of the most down to earth people I've ever met and I can't imagine she ever told a lie in her life. She was a gracious and generous woman who had lots of good friends all her life long, and stayed out late playing poker till she was 90 years old. You would have loved her. I'm going to miss her lots.

Jo, a few years ago I was on ebay looking at burlesque photos for a project I was working on. When I came across that photo of Sherry Britton (on your website, at 21) it stopped me in my tracks. I have the same reaction every time I see that photo, it encompasses the stripping ideal I hold in my mind; gorgeous, mysterious, sensuous, powerful. How amazing that were able to know her as a person.

She was so wonderful in "Pretty Things," all salty with the interviewer when she wanted to try on her costumes. What a gal.

Thank you! I'm really feeling it today and I appreciate those comments.

Here's a story about Sherry in today's Daily News:

I'm offended by the morons in the comments who are using someone's memorial article to grind their axes--so so so inappropriate and gross and without any class.
