I just bought my daughter who is 9 a cell phone. My reason is that i dont have a home phone and in the occasion that shes home alone (rare) i dont want her to not be able to call me, my parents, etc if something were to happen. Now that Im dancing again she may be alone in the evenings for 30 minutes or so in between when I leave for work and my husband gets home. The neighbors (im in a townhouse community) and I are close so theyll keep an eye on the house and be there if she needs something but I wanted her to have a phone just in case.
When I told the lady I was buying a phone for my 9 year old she gave me this odd look. Like this. Is it so odd now a days for a child of this age to have a phone? I thought it had become commonplace - a few of my friends' children have phones and theyre 9/10 years old.
What do you think?
Edit: I added her to my family plan. We have a 700 minute plan and between my husband and I we used a whopping 89 minutes last month. She only has speed dial numbers in it (family) and wont be taking it to school or to play. Shell have it with her when shes home alone. Its not to be taken anywhere....
