    Default $59 in my purse

    Ugh.

Since I am one big newbie with last Saturday's three-song audition being my first time, I entered my club's amateur contest tonight. Seven girls. As far as I know, a lot of them raked it in, but I got $29. I told folks about it, and they "ugh-ed" right along with me after their surprise (which as fr as I could tell was definitely not fake).

I stayed on afterward (I guess the contest wound up at about 11:30) until 2 am. In that time, I sold one lap dance after one dancer gave me some tips that I used (obviously my hustle needs some work to get LDs, but I still would have expected higher stage tips). Total earnings I brought home from that dance and stage tips from amateur night and after: $59 ($10 tipped out to DJ and house mom).

Game is early on, and I'm scheduled through April. Guess I'll have to stick it out and see if I can make it work or correct whatever I'm doing. I have another week and a half to get professional clothes - maybe that will make a difference, but if the other girls could make serious money in street clothes or some lingerie, I definitely have questions for my suitability there, yet I don't want to punk out early if this is an issue of being a total newb.

ETA: People have repeatedly guessed me in my 20s at this club, but then guess me to be older (which I am) once they spend some time speaking with me. I have had this issue happen to me repeatedly at the gym as well with people asking my age because in their words, I look young but seem older. I'm wondering if that has something to do with my low bucks. I'm seeing all physical types at this club, and I'm in fairly good shape, though skinny; I'm really not sure if it's entirely about looks, but surely that has to figure into it, especially if I come off as "too old" perhaps?

What are you talking about with them when they decide you must be older?

I'm wondering if that's a quality about me that could hurt me as a stripper or if there's something about me that's off-putting, hence the relative lack of stage tips and few LDs (and no VIPs).

I'm 31 and people guess me ot be in my early 20's also... and I will tell them the truth after they've guessed. Doesn't hurt my money at all. Sometimes the younger guys like the idea of the "older woman." Several have even just come out and told me that it turns them on.

I've only "confessed" my age to staff and dancers, not customers . . . yet. I definitely had fears that it would hurt my money, or that they would look for signs of age on my face and body.

Good to know it's not having negative repercussions for folks.

I guess everyone has a crap night, especially in the beginning, where others make considerably more. Still, it sucked, and appeared to raise a flag for me as well as others who couldn't give me advice on what wasn't working (two dancers suggested flat-ironing my hair to finesse my look, and I'll do it; also new shoes and an outfit arrived today, which should help, since I was using my own, non-stripper clothes).

I've thought more about it this morning, and I can't tell you why something was off, only that it obviously was. That's the bothersome part: last night felt like a failure for murky reasons. It would be different if the club had been dead or I fell on my face. Then I'd have a reason for $59 (though I'm also grateful I got that instead of $0). If anything, amateur night should have totally helped me, given my status.

Babe, there are off and on nights.
Depends on how you feel, if you have eaten, if you have new shoes.
Some nights i can walk out with $100 other nights up to $1500.
    It really just depends.
My advice, just get comfortable with the club and other girls first. Once you feel like one of the girls and not a 'newbie' you will have more confidence and the guys will be able to tell.
It honestly has nothing to do with how old or young you are!
    Good luck!

Yep. Wednesday I walked with $123. Theres not much rhyme or reason to the money... sometimes they all want you and sometimes they want nothing to do with you...

Yea I agree with everyone here. Sometimes u just cant control the motions of the customers and alot of times it really has nothing to do with u its them and their lameness. Hang in there, with time u will have a night where u are "on". With the economy being the way it is its hard to make any money at times. Its not necessarily the easiest time to start dancing..So just remember it really isnt u...

Thank you so much! I appreciate the insight. It *is* getting more comfortable for me, so I hope that translates into $$$. Thanks again for the insights and positive thoughts. It's good to know other people run into their bad nights too.

I'm 21 and that's what I tell customers and they often tell me I seem older too. I've been told that I seem more "mature"... aka not like the drunken party girls that tend to make more money :\ It could have to do with that.

I thought it might mean I'm boring, and ya know what? I can tell you - without feeling bad about it - that I am for some customers; I realized this tonight and was at peace with it, largely because my last two shifts have gone *so* much better. I realized that I do well with a certain type and totally don't get along with another type (young guys, whom I didn't get along with from the time I was 13). In addition, it was a bit of getting acclimated and getting over fear.

I've also come to the conclusion that with any amateur night crowd, I'm going to have a bum night, simple as that. They aren't all gonna be winners, but that doesn't necessarily mean I've goofed or need to call in ugly to work.

I also found tonight that I wasn't as thrown by customers' remarks. I wasn't stupified before exactly, but I was able to roll with things better tonight because I'm calmer at the club overall.

Thanks for the reassurance to everyone.
