    Default Stopping short

    Question -

What is it with people who stop short in traffic? You know, instead of stopping at the sign or car in front of them, they leave like 4-5 car lengths over and over?

Is it a scam to get you to hit them from the rear so they can sue us?

    Are they depth-perception challenged?

Do they feel that they are "more law abiding" on the grounds that a law abiding citizen stops at half a car length, so 4-5 car lengths makes them uber well behaved citizens worthy of a Smokey the Bear award?

Some drivers are super cautious. My buddy is telling me all the time not to pull up so close behind someone that I can't see their rear tires. I guess just allowing a margin of error? Maybe if the guy in front of you drives a stick and rolls back a bit...people don't always pay attention.

Young/new drivers, old drivers, people freaked out about having accidents and screwing their insurance. I wouldn't sweat it X. Just give them all the finger.

    just kidding.

Not being too close to other cars is one thing, but staying 4-5 car's lengths away? Those are idiots, and I usually just cut in front of them.

I am, but not that badly.

The ones who get me are the people who take forever and a day to make a simple turn, as if they get all happy by holding everyone else up behind them.

Probably busy doing something else like texting/cellphone and doesn't get too close for fear of hitting the car in front of them or has did it before.
