    Default Facial Fillers

First, sorry for all these threads Ive started... ugh, last one

I went to a med spa and next Thurs Im getting my face done...

They said restylane for lips and juvederm for smile lines (of course botox for upper face)

Question is - I figured theyd use the same thing for lips and smile lines. She didnt explain why she wants to use different fillers. Anyone know? Im just curious...

I think it has something to do with the thickness and longevity but mostly thickness of the filler. This is only info that I've gotten secondhand from sister. I know she uses a variety of fillers for different areas to give the most natural look that stays the longest.

They are both made from the same stuff, have similar longevity and are used for the same purpose. They are just 2 different brands for basically the same product. I don't get why they would want you to do both? Maybe they just want to sell you 2 syringes instead of one.

I dunno... the juvederm is $600 and the restylane is $500.... she said i would need 1 syringe of each... i thought 1 syringe would be enough 1/2 in lips and 1/2 in smile lines (theyre not very deep)

I dont want huge lips - just a little plumper... i think a whole syringe will be way too much. But Ive never had it done before so I dont know.... my lips arent thin - theyre very nice - i just want a little bit.

Im a little worried im going to have duck lips OR that she WILL only need 1/2 and I just bought 2 syringes when only 1/2 was needed from each in the end...

I dunno about face stuff but I got my lips done two months ago. I got 1 cc of Juvederm (mostly in my top lip) which was $650 and it was not that big of a difference.

from what I've read the Juvederm has a higher concentration of hyaluronan particles (compared to Resty) that, when crosslinked, enable the product to supposedly last longer.

Restylane can also be bought in a smaller sized syringe, 0.4 somethings (not sure what the units are, cc's?) which can be a more economical choice if only a small amount of filler is needed (since the syringes are a one time use thing.)

Yes, I heard from a lot of friends that Juvederm lasts longer than Restylane.

Aw Audrey you are so pretty! Yes I think that 1 cc would be a good little boost for your lips, and you have nice lips already!

Yeah, I wouldn't worry... one syringe won't give you duckface. I think juvederm particles are smaller than restalyne so they use a smaller needle and it hurts a lot less.

Let us know how it goes. Have you asked about Perlane? It's a larger molecule and is used more for smile lines and lips for this reason. Juvederm and Restylane are basically the same thing just different brands. Although, I've read better reviews about Juvederm

I was never charged by the syringe, just by the cc. It does seem like they are charging a lot but different areas need different amounts? I only had my under eyes injected with Juvederm and Perlane in my nasal folds (which I didn't need, wish I had them do my smile lines instead).

    Audrey :

You are gorgeous and it's too early to do this.

    Dangerous :

I didn't know you could get fillers for under your eyes. I thought the skin was too thin ect. I am going to search to see if you have written about this. I want this NOW.

I've done restylane once for my nasal labial folds. It hurt like a moth*&fu*&er!!

But it lasted for almost a year.

I recently had perlane put into my smile lines. Mine are fairly deep.
$800 later I looked amazing for a whole 3 FUCKING WEEKS.
    Waste of money.

It does hurt! They kept having to blot my tears so they could finish! It's comparable to a really deep pimple in that area. hurts. But the results are worth it. Audrey, my smile lines were deeper than yours and I did not need a full syringe, so make sure they explain why they want to do it that way.

What's the result like with undereye injections? Does that just fill out the underwye hollow or does it actually change the texture and diminish the little wrinkles and folds?

Oh one other thing: If they haven't told you already, do NOT take an aspirin, vitamin E or ibprufen for a week to two weeks before.

I did all the above except for the Vitamin E. I got some really bad scarring. The derm was nice enough to do laser treatments on that area (my NF area on the side of my mouth). I went every 10 days for around 5 months. He did it for free. ( Not all of them will be that nice). It got rid of most of it, but not all.

They didn't warn me about the Vit E before I went in.

Both! I mostly had it injected in my tear troughs to even out my hollows but it filled out the wrinkles and folds too. This area also requires a much smaller amount due to how thin the skin is but also more technique.

If your nasolabial folds bother you, look into Artefill. It is an FDA approved semi-permanent filler that lasts 3 to 5 years. It generally runs $1300 to $1500 per syringe. It is extremely cost effective, if you take in account the price of repeated Resty/Juve injections. Which, if you have a fast metabolism, usually begin to absorb in under 6 months. (Plus the injections in this area are considered to be the most painful.)

It is a bovine collagen based suspension, so you need an allergy test done 4 weeks before injection. Some people also require a touch up session if the lines are very deep.
