I was just wondering if this is just me. My gym was using paper towels and disinfectant to wipe down the machines. Now I'm noticing that there are no more paper towels just rags. This really skeeves me out. Do you think that's nasty?

Eh, not that nasty. As long as they are changing them fairly frequently throughout the day. Also, I don't go to a gym!

But I must admit, I was so excited to read this thread. "Does this gross you out" is sure to be fun!

It doesn't really bother me. I don't expect the machines at the gym to be sparkling clean. As long as there isn't fresh sweat on it, I don't have a problem with it. In fact, I prefer rags because they can be washed and re-used rather than filling up the trash with paper.

Nah. The more we try to make the world antiseptic, the more we weaken our own immune systems.

    Very much agree.

As for the OP, at least the gym is being proactive in being clean in general. I have seen some that are not so much concerned.

the gym i go to has 2 different containers for the rags, one clean one dirty. the clean ones are nicely folded on a table and the drity ones go in a hamper type container and they have a washing machine and dryer at the gym so there is always clean towels. nothing to worry about. technically, if the "antiseptic" spray is properly mixed the rags don't even need to be washed...... technically....... but i still like having clean ones.

I don't think it's nasty, but if I was a germophobe I would think so. Then again, if I was a germophobe I wouldn't go to a gym to begin with.

I've always done this too. Just take a fresh towel every time, wipe it before and after. It's just common courtesy i think.

Yeah this doesn't bother me. As long as they are washing the towels, I actually prefer this.

I don't like the use of paper towels period as I hate unnecessary, excess waste contributing to landfill.

Oh, you're fine. You're going to take a shower when you get home anyways, right? Besides, it's better for the environment.

Heh, thats more than the gyms I've gone to will do. I just bring my own towel, never wear short shorts, and try not to touch anything unnecessarily.
