Default I took my acrylics off...

after 5 years of having them on! My nails are really thin, but they don't look as bad as I thought they would. Honestly, it felt really freeing. It's like a huge weight has been taken off me... it's hard to explain. And I wasn't having any problems with the acrylics. I was just sick of them being too long to do anything and getting dirty between the acrylic and my natural nail. If anyone can recommend a good strengthener, let me know!

The Sally Hansen one is good. I used it after I had my acrylics taken off.

I know what you mean, that day IS freeing. I miss my acrylics sometimes, but not the filing down pain, and spending cash on them every 2 weeks.

You can always use prenatal vitamins too. I've never had to take them (have wicked strong nails), but other girls swear by them.

Yup... From the first day I started dancing, I've never NOT had acrylics. It feels so good to be able to feel the pads of my fingertips as I'm typing this.

Nail Tek and Nail Tek II are great for the situation you describe. You can get it at Walgreens.

If you get the right technician, this should NEVER hurt. It's completely the fault of the employee if it does.

The hair and nails vitamins from GNC work wonders on my nails. And biotin on its own also helps. If you use vitamins and stuff, your nails should start growing fast and you can recover from the acrylics. I wore acrylics for years and when I finally got my real nails back I couldn't imagine how I kept those things on for so long. Natural nails look and feel so much better, IMO.
