    Semi-Safe Tanning

This place around me has a bed that has only 1% of the "bad rays." It costs $35 for one session, but you can get up to 20 for $390. That's alot of money, but if it prevents possible future problems it might be worth it.

Does anyone else use these types of beds? This isn't to be confused with the Orbit b/c that still has more "bad rays," but just not as many as regular tanning beds do.

Do you think the risk is still as great for skin cancer and the numbers are a gimmick?

Yes. A tan is cell damage, and cell damage is the largest risk factor for skin cancer. Sorry .

Yes. Do you know what type of bed it is? I know there are quite a few new ones out there that claim to have less % of UVA rays.

If you're curious about the science of why, the belief used to be that UVA rays were harmless and could even be beneficial, but now we know that UVA rays also damage the collagen and can indirectly cause damage to the DNA. UVB rays are generally referred to as the "bad rays" because we have known for a longer period and have done more studies that they directly damage the DNA and can cause skin cancer.

I don't think any tanning bed is safe. I would never use one but to each their own. I go through many bottles of self tanner though.
