Default Have you ever slummed it?

By this, I mean have you ever dated someone that was below your league?

Answers can include any interpretation of this....dating someone who was far less attractive than you, or much dumber than you, or who made much less money, or from a much lower socio-economic level....whatever way you want to interpret the question.

If so, how did the relationship work out?

I don't know if this counts, but I'm in love with someone who busks for a living....you know, he's trying to get his stuff out there and get known:p
Eh, it's not a real relationship though. Just some really good times a few weeks twice a year.
Other than this guy. I never have. I'm really picky and have no prob being alone.

    TOTALLY slummed it. Many times.

I have more than once speculated that I'm most turned on by people who have deep seated psychoses and debilitating mental illness. No evidence to date has refuted this.

Of course, it's handy, cause I can contact all my exes at once by drawing a pentacle on the floor, sacrificing a ram, and shouting "Hail Satan". Convenience is a must.

Sorry to be so silly. Late night.

Yep. That sounds like my ex-husband. All of that, and he was a professional criminal. But, gosh, he was so nice at first...

I once dated an amazing looking guy who never finished highschool, had been to jail a few times and couldn't hold a job at sonic just because he was so pretty.

I once dated a drug dealer even though I don't do any drugs because he was so sweet and sensitive...I'm pretty sure now that was a show, but he never even once disrespected me, we just grew apart bc I knew I could never take him seriously. He was not at all conventionally attractive I might add.

I'm now dating a sexy toned frat guy who couldn't put a proper sentence together to save his life. He treats me better than anyone ever has, but mentally we just don't click. He's fun for now though.

I'm young and don't plan on taking any guy seriously for a while.

erm yeah. I dated a stupid frat guy my freshman year of college who was a total doofus. I just did it to see what it would be like to be in a frat house hanging out with frat boys and go to all the "cool" parties that everyone talked about. They weren't that cool, my artist/weirdo/bohemian friends were way better.

    Yes

I even married the ugly bastard thinking, *well, he's ugly, he won't cheat", when really it was "he's ugly, so he figured I'd leave him for a better deal, so he cheated"

Dumbass, I woulda been with his ugly ass forever.

Oh well, thank God I have strong genes.

There's no logic with the ugly....I can't wait to he finally gets to see my new man, he's FINE

All the guys I've ever been in a relationship with had less money than I did. I had settlement money and it attracted a loooot of poor losers who I worshiped because I was young and dumb. Eventually they were too needy, too dependent or, most often, I just realized I was letting myself be used.

Now I'm just dumb though. And broke. Heh.

    Oh, yeah.

I wouldn't consider difference in income to be 'slumming it' really -- me and my partners are all not so rich, we work just enough to stay comfortable, and 'comfortable' for us means good food and movies, not spa treatments -- but my first BF was this clueless doofus with no social skills, and I was totally using him because he had a car.

Yes. They are all ex's. Im not one to pick a partner solely based on one thing such as looks or their job etc.

Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.

It's really hard to slum it when I don't even know what I'm worth.

I also dont think difference in income counts. Or even looks..........Hmmm..maybe self esteem? I recently stopped dating this cute, wealthy guy who was convinced he was `punching above his weight` when dating me. Turns out he was right, and he bored the life outta me! In all sorts of ways.
I consider that slumming it because I only went for it because I was very bored. He woudnt have had a chance if I was in my right mind.

Then there was another guy I used to date who was jobless, but a total stunner, funny and bright. That wasnt slumming it, he was also very popular.

I reckon if you are confusing the other person easily during conversation but not on purpose, if you have to get drunk to do them, or if they smell a bit- thats slumming it

I've dated all kinds of guys "lesser" than me, according to most conventional standards. But really, I don't like to classify it that way. I don't see people as being more or less valuable (with certain very specific exceptions, I see certain types as a drain on society but that's another thread).

It's impossible to find someone who's absolutely perfect, who fits your definition of the ideal mate in every aspect. We all make compromises. Every guy I've ever been with had some of the traits I want in a partner but not all.

I'm curious about the point of this thread. Why ask a bunch of strippers (or any group of women) if we date / have sex with people "below" us? Is it meant to fulfill some weird fantasy that we're all potentially obtainable by even the most unworthy of candidates? Because if so, you need to hit the ATM and ask us again later!

I feel like it i hard for beautiful, smart, financially stable women to find a mate that is also so. I have not had a boyfriend since i was 17 (I am 21 now) but I have slept with my share of losers, guys who won't commit, treat me badly and like a piece of trash, and then go date a girl who is just awful. I feel like guys want to be the dominating one in the relationship, and especially if you earn more than them, they feel like you will run away and go be with someone else. For some reason I am the one out of my friends who will get screamed at at the bar by some douchebag who thinks they can do better...the only thing that saves me from being sad is my awesome self esteem :-)

Yeeeeeep. He was a giant loser who worked at a local restaurant, didn't have a car, total lame hippie. I brought home my leftover takeout once, and ALL I FUCKING WANTED was my plain white rice. I told him this. He says "ok i'll get it for you."

He comes out and I take one bite and spit it out. He decided to add sugar and butter. WTF. Gross. Thanks for asking, you loser douchebag. That was the beginning of the end. He just started to annoy me and I started to hate him. He asked me for money and I laughed at him, and said seeya. He was also kinda fat. WTF was I thinking?

I have slummed it my entire life. Maybe I have the Florence Nightingale complex I want to mother and baby someone totally beneath me! Those relationships never work out. I always end up angry and resentful and find someone else to move on to! NEW PROJECT!!
