Nope, its all about Trader Joes here (although, I might go to WF if it wasn't so expensive).

TJs also has the hottest cashier that I've been crushing on for weeks. We used to harmlessly flirt and if I was in another lane he'd turn around and wave. Lately, when he has the shortest line and I jump in it another checker always comes over and helps me to their shorter line. I think it would be weird to say no I want to stay in the long line! I feel so silly making sure I have nicely done makeup before going grocery shopping.

I work minutes away from Whole Foods, and am thus there nearly every day. Sometimes TWICE a day. I'm bad, bad, bad.

(Love Trader Joe's too, but you can't get everything there.)

We only have one Whole Foods in Toronto that I know of, and no Trader Joe's. I used to live close to WF's and was an addict then, but now, I'm too far away from it considering I have no car. I'm sure I'm saving a ton of money though, cause I bought a lot of the prepared foods, and gourmet stuff, now, I just make stuff at home.

But yes, Whole Foods is amazing!

Whole Foods originated in Austin, yay! Their flagship store on 6th and Lamar is fucking AMAZING.

Ooo I know right. Love that store but it costs far too much. I like to go to their raw food deli inside, it's weird how they can make those things tatse exactly like really good cooked food.

Trader Joe's junkie here too. Whatever I don't get there, I get at Limbo (produce and spices) and the occasional reluctant jaunt to Safeway or Fred Meyer (shudder). Whole Foods is way too expensive for me, though I do really love their salad bar. Whenever I'm in an unfamiliar town and I want a quick takeout lunch, I hit up the Whole Foods salad bar post haste!

Our WF just opened here in Napa, and it's the only one I've ever been in, but I'm sure it's the nicest WF anywhere. And the only thing between our WF and Trader Joe's is a Peet's Coffee! I spent 2 hours yesterday wandering between the 2 stores.

So, if you're visiting the wine country stop and check it out. But we prefer to send our tourists here:

I have a milk allergy so right now whole foods is the only place I can buy dairy free products without making it from scratch myself.

Well thats nicer than sending them to Dean and Deluca. I love that place too but heavens to betsy is it pricey.

Every time I see this thread I try to think of something I need at TJs so I can attempt to go back and hit on the hot cashier.

they're freaking expensive. I've spent so much money there... it doesn't help that i'm a super health conscious vegan/going raw vegan and I love to cook and hate going out to eat so I'm always buying ingredients for recipes and new weird stuff. I've gone 3 times since last Thursday, not TOO bad, but I've spent a lot of money. they do have good quality food though, and I consider health food an investment, because in the future i'm not going to have to spend money on health insurance, doctor's visits, medications, time off work, etc... because i'm preventing it all now.

My bf made me a whole foods addict, lol. I love their veggie potstickers and dark chocolate pecan cookies (which I had for breakfast, hehe) I got some new pastas yesterday, too.

Between the two stores I've seen, I'm not impressed by WF in the least. Just seems like another attempt to add yuppie snob appeal to the rudimentary duty of grocery shopping, like your neighbors are supposed to envy you or something because you shop there.

But hey, if there's a market for that, more power to them. I'll stick to my Kroger affiliated grocer or the local farmer's market.

Their stuff is nice but not the price I want to pay for simple food. I tried to buy a regular carton of strawberries one time and it rang up to be about $20. I'd have to sell a dance for some damn strawberries? Haven't been back since. I can still get organic and gourmet foods at other supermarkets.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I really love going grocery shopping. It's almost exciting for me. I really like Whole Foods but to be fair I've never been to a Trader Joe's. I love the sun dried tomato panko chicken breasts and the prepared food section has the best pasta caesar salad. The only problem is the food is different in each store. So I have to drive the farthest to get what I want!!

It's a local upscale grocery - four stores altogether. When visiting friends the closest one to us was on Belmont; there's one on Burnside too. Pricy, but really no more so than Whole Foods. Emphasis on local products! It's up there with Coffee People (Diedrich's) and Powell's in the Portland-businesses-I-lerve dept.
