    Default Hair breakage prevention

Are there any products I can take and/or use to stop my hair from breaking so much? I only blow dry my hair (after letting it air dry for 30 minutes) 3 times a week. I dye the roots every month or so, but it's not breaking at the roots. What gives?

I know there's a normal amount of hair that comes out on a daily basis but it seems more than usual lately.

Are you taking any meds, or dietary supplements? When I was taking Hydroxycut, my hair was falling out like CRAZY.

When I started using Tonalin CLA, it stopped and my hair has never looked better.

Also taking vitamins can help a lot. Some girls swear by the walmart hair pills. (I am not sure of the name but I am sure some of them will help you out. )

Could be a number of reasons including internal like Lexi said. I'm going to try to help with any external causes...

When you color your regrowth, is it with a permanent hair color and are you dragging color through the ends at any point during processing? Constant layering of permanent hair color and/or bleach causes breakage. Try applying permanent color to outgrowth only and using a demi permanent color on previously colored hair to "refresh" the ends.

Hair gets more brittle the further away it gets from the scalp. It's older, has been exposed to more heat and chemical damage, and is therefore more porous. The right amount of moisture and protein is needed to help keep hair resistant to breakage. Overuse of protein will cause more brittleness. Use a color safe moisturizing shampoo and conditioner like Pureology's Hydration line for regular maintainence and a pure protein product like Redken's Extreme CAT 1-3 times a week to help stregthen hair and address porosity.

Regular trims help trmendously, especially if you're trying to grow out. On average, hair grows a half inch per month. going in every six weeks for a 1/4" trim will ensure you eliminate split ends as well as maintain length.
