I'm thinking about going to see the doctor about getting a prescription for it. Has anyone else had experience with taking duromine for weight loss?
I know it contains speed, I'm just desperate to lose weight haha

I was awake for 4 days straight on that a few weeks ago. SW can vouch for that.

Do doctors prescribe this if you're not actually overweight?
Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

^ if people smaller than you are getting it, some doctors must be prescribing it pretty easily. mm i googled it too and it said that it wasn't meant to be taken with depression meds but i'm not sure the reasoning behind it.
anyway, i kind of want to try it to see if it's all its cracked up to be but i kind of feel stupid going to a doctor to ask for it if i'm not overweight..
anybody know where to get it easily in Melbourne?

You people ARE aware it's a heavily addictive drug and diet and exercise should be the first option, yes?
The fuckhead who stole my car for a drug run last week was off his tits on JUST this shit. So it's not exactly a 'non-drug drug' just because it's legal.
As long as you have weighed all the options and understand what can happen if you're doing this stuff, I'm all for it. But it seems that it's thrown around as a 'can I get this even though I'm thin' solution to becoming anorexic sometimes.

Hmm, I'm really nervous about asking the doctor for a prescription. I'm not on any other medication, so I guess that's a good start.
To the OP: Yes, it does work. It comes in different doses: 15, 30 and 40. I'm currently on the 40s. I don't feel "high" or "speedy" but I just don't think about food anymore. Normally all I do all day is think about food, even when I'm eating something I'm thinking about what I will eat next. I just don't get that when I'm on Duramine.
**I could be immune to the speedy feeling because I have a long history with ADHD meds like Dexamphetamine and Ritalin
It is slow release over about 15 hours. The only major side affact I have is trouble sleeping, which I combat with Xanax, Mogodon and Valium (I avoid Stilnox if I have had uppers, I've had some BAD expereinces). If its been a busy night though I find I can sleep without aids.
The girls I know who get fucked up on it usually end up crushing up the capsuals so everything hits your system at once instead of slowly. I've seen girls snort the shit :/
I find about 8-12 hours after I have taken my dose I get extremely hot and a little bit faint if I'm on stage. This subsides quite quickly if I drink some water and sit under a fan, but can be a little bit overhwhelming. Keep up your fluids and this wont happen.
aussiebelle: Yeah there are doctors that will prescribe anything to a girl. I mean, I got it, I got the 40mg, and im well under the BMI they are supposed to use before prescribing.
Darcy: I know some people who have been precribed it BECAUSE they were on anti-depressents and complained they made them "sluggish".
...urgh god I sound like a prescription junkie. But I hope it's helpful.

I've heard you can order phentermine on the internet if you say you weigh like 400 lbs. I don't know anything about duromine.
Duramine is a brand name of Phentermine.
Australian customs are pretty strict. It's unlikely the package would ever arrive.

Wow, thanks Elle! Very useful
Off to see the doctor today!
Phentermine isn't a usually highly addictive drug if used for the RIGHT, prescribed reasons and for a short amount of time (usually it loses its effectiveness anyway).
I am sorry, but some of you do NOT need to be on this. I could see a doctor placing someone on phentermine or phendimetrazine for weight loss or sleep issues (such as narcolepsy) because they act on your nervous system, but someone who doesn't need to lose weight and has no significant need for it?
Hell no. That is almost a complete insult to those (and the reason why it makes a drug that SOME people actually need so hard to get) who actually, truly need it and benefit from it.
And plus, it's not some miracle drug that will make you lose weight without actually changing poor lifestyle habits. If you want to lose weight and not change a damn thing in your life, try cocaine. I have heard it does WONDERS on weight loss. I mean, it's completely worth the risk of having serious medical problems or DYING to lose a few pounds when you don't really need to anyway.
Good God. I bet someone will actually go out and try it too.

It is very similair to meth in it's molecular structure, and comes complete with the standard side effects of heart problems, seizures and death. Just to get that out there, but i'm sure most people will read up extensively about it before thinking of trying it.
It is an appetitie suppressant not a fat burner, but the appetite suppressant effects don't decrease over time.
Personally i wouldn't face the risks for an appetitie suppressant when there are cheaper and safer alternatives out there.
I would be worried about the very high possibility of developing serotonin syndrome because i take SSRI's, the same risk is there for those taking MAOI's. (as an aside peple who take anti depressants should really avoid E).
--EDIT-- Just wanted to note i'm not trying to lecture. I have my own experience with not so legal weight loss drugs, but i always make sure to research research research before trying anything -EDIT--

"However, recommendations limiting its use for short-term treatment may be controversial. One reason given behind limiting its use to 12 weeks is drug tolerance, whereby phentermine loses its appetite-suppressing effects after the body adjusts to the drug. On the contrary, it has been shown that phentermine did not lose effectiveness in a 36-week trial.Developing tolerance can usually be avoided long-term by taking phentermine 5 consecutive days, then skipping 2 days each week."
- Wikipedia entry on phentermine (Okay, it's wikipedia, but they rarely steer me wrong).
It's fairly safe to say any drug long term is going to lose it's effectiveness if you are not upping dosages.

I used it once. It made me grumpy :/.
Uhm there are so many things wrong here.
1. Duramine makes you change your poor lifestyle habits. It gives you motivation to get up and move more, and supresses your appetite. Hopefully you will keep up these habbits after you stop the medication because you are in a routine.
2. A coke habit costs a lot of money. ESPECIALLY in Australia. Duramine is like $80/month. Coke is also unpredictable, you never know what youre going to get. You never take the same quantities. It's not slow release and controlled like Duramine, it's up and down and up and down all over the shop.
3. When your livelyhood rests upon what you look like, some people are willing to take a few medical risks to conform to what they perceive will make them more money. Plastic surgary is booming isn't it?

I took my first dose a couple of hours ago... not really feeling anything yet =/

You don't 'feel' anything. You just don't....stop. See you in 68 hours.

Hehe, my tummy is a little upset. I feel a bit sleepy, but I have to work in a few hours.
From the reactions of a couple of posters on this thread, I was expecting to go nuts or something >.>
I was kiinda hoping to climb onto the roof at work tonight and throw packets of cigarettes down at people... possibly hiss and jump around and scream obscenities.

How does one go about getting this prescribed to them if they aren't over weight? Like what do you tell the doctor "I know I'm thin but I want this drug that treats something I don't have just for the side effect, so I lose more weight"? I'm not being sarcastic, I really wanna know.
You go to a ethically challenged doctor who promotes imaginary health/weight issues and possibly eating disorders.
Seriously, there isn't much of a reason for people to take phentermine unless they're overweight. Like I said, if you are not losing weight and already thin, it probably means you are just not meant to be that thin. If you have love handles and are already at the lower end weight for your height and are toned, medicine isn't going to really help a whole lot.
