    Default another atkins question

i know atkins isn't really healthy but i just need to hit it for two weeks to shed weight before a major shoot.

i know that some vegetables are carb free, and some aren't, like sweetcorn and stuff.

which vegetables are okay to eat on atkins, and which ones aren't?

I found this information very helpful when I was on it. http://www.atkins.com/carb-counter "Vegetables" are on the lower right hand.

Okay, my years of eating disorders and weird diets have given me knowledge lol:

All veggies are NOT carb free...in fact, none are. Not even lettuce. Now, some have more carbs than others, but you have to count ALL carbs on atkins.

To be in Induction, or the major fat burning stage where your body goes into ketosis (basically it burns your fat for fuel) you have to eat 20 carbs a day or les (in grams).

This is hardly anything. You can prolly have like 2 cups of loosely packed veggies a day but just like lettuce spincach cucumbers. no beans, no tomoatoes, etc.

I really reccomend buying the book...its like six bucks and has all the info on how much carbs are in what!

Generally stay away from starchy vegetables like corn, winter squash and obviously potatoes; think high water content. Bell peppers, cucumbers, lettuces, sprouts, tomatoes, celery, mushrooms, zucchini/summer squash, spinach & leafy greens.

Beets and carrots, due to sugar content, are also no-nos during induction.

All the salad type veggies... ya know your leaves, tomatoes, cucumber, onions, peppers, etc.

And the ones you are supposed to avoid (in the 2 week introductory phase) are the ones with the high GI value ie. sweetcorn and potatoes. And certain fruits like bananas, prunes etc.

There really isn't that much that you CAN'T eat (in the 2 wk period) as far as veggies go it's more about the portion sizes.

I've been doing Atkins for almost a month now. I suggest checking out the book and the website.

If done correctly and over a lifetime atkins can be healthy...the book really explains this. The first three days SUCKED but I feel really good now. During the first two weeks of being on Atkins you can eat 20 carbs per day 12-15 of which should come from veggies. On the website there is a recipe for muffins and pancakes make with ground flax meal that you can eat even during the first two weeks that are actually pretty tasty...good for breakfast.

The website lists all the foods you are allowed for the first two weeks (phase 1). If you stay on atkins you go through 4 phases where eventually you start intoducing small amounts of grains and starches back into your diet.

I like this diet because every day I am getting my proper serving of fruits and veggies, I drink at least 8 glasses of water,I never feel like I am starving myself, and I am losing weight little my little.

    Good luck!!

Oh, and if you have a bread machine, I really like this recipe: http://www.recipezaar.com/102631
It's much chewier than regular bread, but when you've been living off chicken breasts and cheese, it's heaven to be able to add some lettuce and make a sandwich.

I always find my boobs shrink on low carb... it might be because you lose so much initial water weight in the beginning. When you're on other diets do your boobs shrink? If not I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for that link Bella !! Yes it is a little slice of heaven hehe! There are a lot of cool baking recipes for Atkins out there on the web. God bless flax meal...I couldn't do Atkins without it!

People always think all you eat is meat and fat. I mean don't get me wrong... you do eat meat and fat but in general I feel like I have a pretty balanced diet amongst all the veggies I eat.

since i'm going for rapid weight loss i'm pretty much just eating raw low-carb veggies and cheese during the day, and a steak for dinner.

taking tonalin again and doing crunches like crazy.

i love how the second day of my attempt at atkins, i get my period. that's awesome. because there's nothing as fun as craving sugar at the one time that you can NOT have any

Someone (I think it was Velvet) suggested sugar free jello and heavy whipping cream for those sugar cravings. (Splenda is good)

This thread has inspired me to cut out carbs again.
