Default Losing my voice- any suggestions?

I have an easily strained voice. Once when I was 16, I was practically mute for 8 weeks following two months of teaching outdoor daycamp (all that yelling). Sometimes when I'm just finishing off a cold, my throat will do this again. It really makes selling dances a challenge when I literally can barely speak. What words manage to come out don't sound so great either.

I'm not sick though, is the thing. I've been running, I feel okay, I can breathe fine, it's just the sore back of the throat, unable to speak thing. I've been gargling salt water, drinking OJ, taking tylenol, drinking tea with honey...it all helps a bit, but after a few hours of work my voice still runs out.

Is there anything else I can do? I've been not speaking a word all day, so as to preserve my voice for the club. The thing is, I'm booked out of town next week, and I'll have to work a whole bunch. Not being able to talk is really going to suck for that one. Ive already paid for my flight and hotel, so...Are there any holistic cures? Any foods? Anyone know what I could do? Thx! Otherwise I'm going to go around with a little sign "wanna dance?!".

I'd for surely take the rest of the week off if you're at cfolds next week.

Crush some advil to a powder, mix it in hot water and gargle. Brings down the swelling.

Hey, I did that when my voice went to shit and I had a good success rate with it! No idea why, though.

Thanks ladies...Scarlett, yeah I think I will take a few more days off. I'm on such a roll at my club this week that it's hard to say no to another good night, but I should probably rest my feet a bit before the dance-a-thon next week. And my voice.

I also did a belated search (for shame, 3 year member-girl), and found some suggestions elsewhere. I really hope this is not laryngitis. I must have the constitution of an invalid. Gawd.

^^Oh that'll be cool. I'm such a lame stripper though. The Western girls put me to shame. I was all proud of my flexibility, but then I went and pulled a muscle on stage last night. Lame-ola. I promise not to cry this time though! hehe. I will just drink instead.

^^I will definitely try that. I've been meaning to go buy some honey, and that sounds delicious.

I just got back from doctor. It is a throat infection. My tonsils astounded him. So hopefully all these tips, plus the antibiotics, will put me back in my heels, good as new, fast as possible. Thanks all!
