We were talking about this in class the other day and am curious as to your thoughts..
If you could have testing done and find out that you will be afflicted with an incurable deadly disease sometime during your adult life, would you want to know?
Yes
No
Not sure

Yes.. I would like to know if there is something I can do NOW to help me live longer perhaps or maybe live a better life.

Yes, so if I can, I could help with research towards it.
Yes...
Tough question though...

No. I wouldn't. For example, if I knew I was going to go blind I would dwell and stress on it till the time came and then I'm sure I'd still be shocked and mourn for my eyesight after it was gone.
Id rather just deal with it all at once.

No. I feel the same way as Vegas Princess; UNLESS, if it was preventable, curable or treatable, then I would probably want to know earlier.
Id want to know. Definately.
For the poll's sake, lets say the disease is incurable and you will die. I feel so morbidI said no though, it would definetely be a black cloud hanging over my head and it would prevent me from enjoying life.

^ Well then absolutely not. For the same reasons you stated.
Life is a deadly disease.![]()
Yes- I'd want to go through the stages of acceptance so I could get to a peaceful place about it before I died.

I voted yes. At least then I'd know the "how". It would change my life knowing I believe. Time is precious, but sometimes I forget, and think and live as though I will live forever. This might make it easier to remember, and stay more in the moment.
I would want to know, b/c if it was something that would happen like... in the next 5 yrs, it'd effect my decisions to have children....
but if it was something that would effect me in my 50's or later, I'd still be able to raise them and be a part of their lives. I'd just hate to have kids and leave them motherless. Mothers are one of the most important things in the world of a child.
there are other reasons, but that is #1
For myself, I wouldn't care either way - it wouldn't really change the way I live my life all that much. I'd just be afraid to burden others with that knowledge since I'm not really good at hiding stuff like that.

yes. many of the reasons mentioned above apply (the yes ones).
Love it!
Yes. I would want to know so that if it is contagious (such as HIV) that I don't spread it to loved ones.

Nope. I'm already paranoid that I'm going to die every day and knowing that it's true would probably send me over the edge of insanity. I just want to go to sleep one night and wake up dead the next day.

I'd want to know so I could make the most of what time I had left, do the things, go places I've always wanted to go.
And I just might get some credit cards and max them out!
No for a few reasons. I sometimes (not always) think that knowing about something deadly makes people more sicker sooner.
2. You might get hit by a bus and die tomorrow - life should be full regardless.
3. Perhaps I shall have to eat these words one day, but I have no intentions of an "incurable" disease getting the better of me any time soon (-:
Well, as others have noted, we are all afflicted with an incurably deadly disease called life.
Actually, that's not true. Life forms that reproduce asexually can theoretically live forever. All bacteria need is a nutrient medium and safety from the elements to live for thousands of years.
We die because we reproduce sexually. Ask that question. Is sex worth death?
To answer the original question: I would not, because it really doesn't change anything. Plus, it would probably really get on my nerves.
Now if you could tell me when I would collapse in a heap, then the answer would be "yes" because I could plan around it. And make sure I would not be a burden on my loved ones.
