    Default Taking a taxi home

I currently have friends driving me to and from the club till i can save up enough to buy a car, but this usually means I have to leave at or before 2 because they don't stay up any later than that. At the new club im working at it doesnt even get busy till after 1am! I would like to stay later, till like 4am so im considering using taxis to get back home. Problem is I am scared and hear a lot of horror stories. If a taxi driver knows I'm a stripper I am afraid he might try to mug me or rape me.
What can I do to make sure I am safe? i know if it is a big taxi company, like yellow cab, there are people tracking the cab, but still, the stories make me scared. Am I overreacting? I have taken taxis in the day but never at night and never from a strip club, where they would know I have a bunch of cash in my purse.
I live in Los Angeles btw, if that makes any difference.

Try getting a referal from dancer friends. I also remove all my makeup and wear very normal clothes when getting into the cab. I keep my money on my person and not in my bag and my cellphone with me. If you take a cab and like the driver, get his name and/or cab number and see if you can get him again.

Ask some of the girls if there are any dedicated 'drivers'... they generally are more efficient and affordable than a taxi.
Oh Canada, we stand on cars and freeze...

Your doorguys and bouncers should know who the "safe" drivers are. Carry a cell phone and mace!

I have never had a problem taking cabs.

Just don't talk to the driver. I've gotten into a cab with full makeup on carrying my work bag at the club countless times.

Just make yourself look occupied. Texting with someone or hell even if you have a friend up that late talk to them on the way home.

Use one of the bigger companies and take note of the taxi number when you get into the car.

If you're really worried have a doorman walk you to the cab and have him take note of the cab number when you get in.

Anyway as I said I highly doubt you'll have any problems. Once you've taken a few cabs you might find a driver you like, get his cell num and call him from a payphone(or block your number on your cell) at the end of the night and have him pick you up. A lot of cabbies like doing personal side trips.

I've never had a problem either, though I don't take cabs that frequently. The club probably has a preferred service or driver, so, like others have suggested, ask the doorgirl or bouncer to call them for you. You will be fine.

hey guys, thanks, apparantly at one club i work at they DO have a driver. The other club that stays open way later though is one of those no shifts clubs and isnt all that organized. The other day I was waiting outside for my ride and one of the other girls was practically begging me to give her a ride home even though we werent even going her way. She had called a cab but it didnt seem she wanted to get in it. I don think its cause of the money because she lived fairly close. That kind of scared me.

I always took cabs to/from work when I worked. I'd just take whatever cab I could hail on my way in. At night, there was a driver I'd used at my first club who I kept super faithful by tipping heavily for his consistency. Any strip club is going to have an informal "house" driver who gets most of his business at those hours from the club and is, in turn, reliable. Just ask around when you get there. And when you find one that you do feel comfortable with, take good care of him. Peace of mind on the ride home is pretty invaluable.

I think you are super/paranoia here !! How many true stories have you heard where a cabdriver is abusing the customer ?? Sexually and/or moneywise ...

Maybe it is another big difference between Europe and USA ?? I dunno ...

Where I come from all cabdrivers are screened not by the company but by the government ... If you wanna be a cabdriver you need a license !!

Also if you call a cab the whole transaction is filed on a record !!

    Pretty good protection IMO ...

    I never had problems

Well, I can speak from experience that NYC has a pretty sizable population of douche-bag asshole cab drivers. They can be rude, belligerent, downright shady, and yes, at least one did try to sexually assault a dancer after her shift.

I've never been to LA so I can't offer too much advice... in NYC however, it's just important to keep your wits about you, keep an eye on the cab ticker, maybe jot down the cabbies ID number just to be safe.

I can't say that dancers face more of a danger (in terms of rape or other sexual assault) than any other woman getting home around 4am. Being lucid... i.e. not drunk/high can certainly discourage some predatory behavior by cabbies and other guys.

Only use reputable cab companies. Cab drivers that work for big companies usually make decent money, and very few of them would be willing to put their jobs on the line AND risk going to jail for raping anyone. I take cabs all the time, and I always use the same company. All the cab drivers know me, and yeah, they hit on me a lot, but it's all in good fun and doesn't go any further than that. Brand loyalty is the name of the game here. If you tip well and continuously use the same company, then the drivers will go out of their way to keep you happy and safe, if only for the fact that they don't want to lose money, their job, and possibly their freedom.
