    Default Any snowboarders here?

I took my sister for a snowboarding lesson for her bday the other day.Well she was a natural but i however am the worst ever! lol
My feet and ankles where killin me before i even put the board on! I changed boots to a size bigger and it was a little better but still i had to sit down after 10 mins for breaks as my legs were shakin with pain, surely this isnt normal?
I have pretty strong legs from hiking but this was pure torture.

I'm far from pro so I don't know if that's normal or not... I don't have that problem, though. I had that issue with ski boots, though.... but I was also like, 10 at the time and I've never done it again so I dunno... Were your shins bothering you?

yea it was all the way from my toes up to half way up my shin/calf, almost like it was squahing on some muscles.
I do have pretty wide feet so maybe the boots were the problem.

I tried. I fell and slid down the mountain clawing it all the way like a cat sliding down drapes. From the bottom I could see exactly where I was trying to claw to stop sliding. It was pretty embarrassing and I have yet to try it again

i don't board, but, i had a similar experience with my cycling shoes (yes they are specially designed)... They killed around the ball of my feet because the straps on the shoes were to tight, and later my ankles were sore as they were too big.

I'm putting alot of pressure on my feet and ankles, so I'm thinking it may relate....good luck...!

It does seem odd that before you even ride you're hurting? Maybe they were tied too tight? Snowboarding boots do feel different but shouldn't be painful. Maybe you just had ill fitting boots? Try a different brand next time? It's common for beginners to favor one edge, so if you're riding too much on your toe edge, your calfs are going to burn. Switch to your heal edge.

When you're first learning you tend to try to balance using your calf muscles in a way that no other exercise does. Expect to be REALLY REALLY soar. As you gain balance and get better you become more fluid, you transfer your weight throughout your lower body instead of isolating it in your calfs.

Expect to spend your first day on your ass, part of the sourness is form pushing yourself back up, over and over. When you fall try to fall on your ass and not your wrists, one of the most common snowboard injuries.

yeah, I had to take a trip to the ER after my first snowboarding attempt because they thought my wrist might be fractured, luckily it was only sprained.

OP, What you're describing doesn't sound normal to me, I mean, I sucked at snowboarding but my feet and ankles weren't bothering me.

O/T: I have a theory why most of us noobs suck so hardcore. Most of us are probably learning at the bottom of the mountain where the snow is all packed almost like ice; Of course we're going to slip and slide and fall and totally suck if we're not on powder. That's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it!
