Default 3D Animation of Normal Childbirth (NOT graphic at all, fear not.)

I came across this in my recent obsessive viewing of childbirth videos on YouTube & thought it was fascinating to see it broken down so cleanly & clearly. This is what happens in a textbook 'normal', vaginal, physiological & spontaneous birth. Amazing to see that, if not interfered with, the baby's body really does rotate back & forth to get around the pelvic bones, just as shown!

I'm finding it helpful to visualize this happening with me; thought it might help other impending laborers too. (Now if only I can get it to happen in the same 60 second timeframe . . .) Perhaps I'll play the same Bach cello suite.

The first and only time I have watched child birth was when my god son was born. He didn't want to come out so they had to get the suction cup thingie and suction him out...it was pretty crazy. I think if she had cello music playing it would have been drown out by the sound of her screaming at the doctors that she was pushing hard .

Bullshit. That is TOTALLY not the song that plays when women give birth. Every time I see a childbirth it's always a rendition of a Slayer song, not that crap.

Am I the only one who felt claustrophobic while watching that?

Nope, Thank god we don't remember it. I would have been freaked out. Childbirth as a whole still scares me.

YES! *shudder* Is that how big a baby really is compared to your bits?

OMG!! There's something wrong with that baby!! It had no genitalia!!!

The one thing they didn't show was that the baby actually helps push themselves down by pushing with their feet (which is why when they are newborns, if you put your hands on their feet when their legs are bent, they push their legs out).

Cool video. Makayla is watching all kinds of birth videos, again. She just cannot get enough of how a baby is born and has stated, matter-of-factly, that she's going to be around when the new baby is born. Oh, lordy.

    Hooray for your mini-doula!

That's also good to know about the pushing with their feet! Amazing how this all can work so harmoniously, or has the potential to.

My only (so minor) quibble with the animation is the angle. I know it's kind of become the standard way to depict the anatomy throughout different stages of birth, but I can't help thinking that this very standard helps reinforce the notion of giving birth flat on your back, when there are so many more efficient alternative positions. Like I said, though, minor issue.

I think Reign in Blood might be apropos. *adds to iPod labor playlist*

Wow, that makes it look so... easy? All a bit too gentle for my liking but a good video. I think I'll send it to my newly pregnant friend. I'm so excited!!!

Heh, if that's too gentle, check out some of the related links, or do a search. Lots of wonderful, yet, uh, not-exactly-gentle examples to be found.

When I've seen it, they've been a light shade of purple on emerging and splotched up in goo. Still, it's a wonderful process. (Makes me glad I'm a man, though.)

Yea...I was pretty shocked at how purple babies look when they are first born. They don't really show that in movies and what not ha!

I know how you feel - I cry almost every time.
