K and I made the most wonderful fucking salad for lunch today and I just had to share.
Last night, he took two very small steaks and coated them with a mixture of honey, liquid smoke, and Rendezvous BBQ seasoning. They marinated like that all night and this morning, and then I seared them in a skillet until they were about medium-rare, and sliced them into thin strips. We also had some fresh Oregon hazelnuts, which we cracked open and toasted, then chopped. The salad was fresh raw baby spinach, quartered canned artichoke hearts, chopped fresh cherry tomatoes, the sliced marinated/seared steak, and the freshly toasted hazelnuts, drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette. We had it on our balcony in the beautiful sunny spring weather with a bottle of sauvignon blanc. The whole thing (not counting marinade) took about 30 minutes.
Most. Effing. Delicious.
You must try it.

Wonder what TX has to offer in lieu of Oregon hazelnuts....

I believe you Dottie and you have my support
Just a totally different flavor...and I'd be tempted to candy them and make a Waldorf. Which is NOT a bad thing!
