Default Is this a yeast infection?

My vagina is burning and swollen. The only way I can describe it is that it feels like there is soap in there. And it feels like the flames of hell when I try to pee. My partner just came back from vacation this weekend, and one of the first questions out of his mouth was if I had "anything going on down there."

Apparently, he has a red rash on his testicles - says that it feels like poison ivy (I've never had it). Also, this happened a couple of times in the past to him, but that was several years ago with his previous partner. (Of course, this freaks me out to no end.)

I've never had a UTI or yeast infection (or anything else) before, so I have no clue WTF is going on downstairs.

    Thoughts please?

Get to the gyno ASAP. If you've never had a yeasty, you should always get the first one diagnosed by a Dr. What you described could be yeast, or it could be something else. The burning with pee makes it sound like more than just a yeasty though. You might also have a UTI or all your symptoms could be from an STD. Get checked!

I agree 100% with Zabrina. It could be a number of things, especially if your partner is complaining of symptoms.

    I hope you feel better!

Men get a yeast infection too though. In the meantime drink lots of water and cranberry juice. Get that appointment though before you try to treat OTC though. You could have a bacterial infection too.

Very true! And they can be passed between partners over and over again. I would add to avoid sexual contact until you talk to a doctor and if you get diagnosed with a yeast infection, let your partner know 'cause he may have one too. If he does and you get cured, he can give it to you again!

God, there's no way in hell he's touching me right now. Planned Parenthood is walk-in here, so I'm planning on going in tomorrow.

I'm reasonably sure it's a yeast infection, but the whole rash thing is what trips me out. I mean, his balls certainly weren't in my vagina, but his penis was. It just seems a little ass-backwards to me.

If it is a yeast infection, any idea of how long its gonna take to clear up? I'm on the schedule tomorrow, but probably will have to call in.

Good idea, Planned Parenthood is usually quick and thorough while being reasonably cheap.

Just tell the doctor that he had a rash, which could be a symptom of a lot of things.

It could take a few days to clear up if it's a yeast infection and you may need to put some cream in there, so see what the doctor says before you call work. Make sure to get a note that says you can't work - just in case your managers are dicks (mine are!)

That doesn't sound like a yeast infection at all to me. They're annoying and they itch, but they're not painful, and they're not normally contagious. What you have sounds more like bacterial vaginosis or an STD like gonorrhea. Definitely go to the doctor and get checked out; almost any clinic in your town will examine you for free or cheap.

And make sure you bf gets checked out, too!!

Especially if he's had this problem with an ex. That is a big red flag (to me) of an STD.

Only thing is, the problem with the ex was NINE YEARS ago. (They broke up 5 years ago.) Apparently, he freaked out the first time it happened (it happened twice). It was, as he said on the phone, "just a rash."

Guys CAN catch yeast infections. But the pain on urination sounds like something else.

Check out the garlic thread if you want something to try before you get to the doctor. I've never had a really raging one resolve with garlic, though. But, yes, get to the doctor ASAP.

^ At this point in time, you already have pain urinating and so that deserves a visit to the doc. It could be just a yeast infection, but if it's not, you do not want to wait any longer to get it taken care of.

I've never met a man who got "just a rash" without a reason behind it. Especially if he comes up to you saying he's got "just a rash" and asks if you're having problems (unless I'm reading that wrong).

Men can be asymptomatic with STD's. Women, however, usually show symptoms. Could it be a very severe yeast infection? It sure could be. It could also be Bacterial Vaginosis. But, being that you do not know what it is...your boyfriend is having some kind of symptom, etc...I would definitely advise you both get to a doctor and not try to guess what the issue is.

    Keep us updated!!!

actually pain and burning on urination IS a common symptom of thrush. Thrush can be more severe for men than women too so its possible that's what it is.

    Symptoms
Approximately 10-20% of women with thrush are asymptomatic (6). Symptoms are often worse in the week before menstruation. Symptoms can include:

A thick white or creamy vaginal discharge (may be cottage-cheese like in appearance).

Itchiness and redness in and around the vagina.

Discomfort and/or pain during sexual intercourse.

    Burning on urination

It could also be genital herpes. Herpes sometimes presents as a mild rash and its symptoms in women are very similar to that of thrush.

    Possible symptoms:

Blisters that burst and become painful ulcers
    Tiny sores
    Small cracks in the skin
    Localised chafing
    Redness
    A distinct rash
Possible areas where symptoms can appear:

Anywhere on the genitals (including within the vulva and vagina and under the foreskin)
    Anywhere else on the groin
In and around the anus (if the infection was passed on by anal intercourse)
On the buttocks and/or lower back
    On the thighs
    Behind the knees
On the backs of the fingers.

There are many stereotypes about the industry that I work in. Sometimes they can be true but human beings are very diverse creatures and cannot be pigeon-holed into one category.

Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.
