    Default Stripping For College

    Hello all,

I'm currently a sophomore at a university in the Midwest, and I just lost out on my financial aid, but I feel like I need to continue my education at the school I've attended for three semesters.

So I'm in a bit of a conundrum.

I could either drop out, switch colleges or get a job that pays enough to where I could work at the same time I go to school.

So, this is why I am here. I think I would like to strip in order to pay for school. But where I need help is that I'd like a bit of advice from people who have gone through this same scenario. If you, or anyone you know has done this, please respond and help a girl in distress.

    Thanks,

    XOXO

    IC

I put myself through college dancing. I worked every weekend and all summer while of my friends were out partying. On the other hand I had a hard time finding job with my degree after I graduated. For lots of careers you need to go on to grad school. What would you do if you weren't in school?

usually financial aid is lost because of poor grades. maybe college isn't the right option for you at present.

Sort of. Had some major things happen and my parents stopped paying for my school, went on break, needed a job, started stripping. There's lots of girls here paying for college this way.

NO. Actually, you're wrong. Financial aid is just that, AID, help, etc. If her family makes enough to where they could pay for her education, she won't get financial aid. If her family doesn't make enough, she will get financial aid. If she's off on her own and her family isn't paying for school, then she is on her own when it comes to financial aid.

This is the predicament I am in, my family makes too much for me to get financial aid, but won't pay for me to go to school anywhere but florida. The only reason I got to come out to PDX is through an exchange program where I paid florida in-state tuition with the help of scholarships. Now tht m y chance period is up and I don't want to go to the school i originally exchanged for, I'm out here and have to pay out of state tuition if I want to go back to attending a university.

I danced when I was taking 15 credits last semester, and the only advice I have for you is to not over do it. When you dance it's hard enough working without having school on top of it, but it is possible to do. Start off with one or two nights a week (not on nights you have classes early in the morning obviously, and up it to three once you get used to it/if you can handle it. You shouldn't have to work any more than three nights a week if you're at a good club making good money.

Yeah that's my problem too. Also the area my family live in has affected my ability to get financial aid.

I must say that although my family help out as much as they can and I'm very appreciative for it, I still have to work pretty much everyday between classes to earn enough money for textbooks, rent, food etc.

To the OP, try working as much as you can because finishing your degree (depending on what it is) will most likely help you in the future to earn more and get a job that you enjoy.

i hate the assumption that you have to be a "sucker" to spend money on a dancer. you're paying her for doing her JOB. that sort of thinking leads to guys coming in and acting like it's a big freaking game and their going to "win" by not spending anything.

not trying to be a bitch or anything, just putting it out there. i hear that term way too much. it makes us all sound like corrupt car salesmen.

Did you go the federal route for aid? I was shocked when I applied for aid as a senior in highschool and they gave me some, based on what my parents made I assumed the Feds will give some to about anyone.

By sucker I don't mean someone coming in and having a good time. I'm talkin bout the idiots that empty their bank account in one night because they've hit 3 other bars and show up completely hammered. You girls are amazing. And do amazing things. Don't take my post the wrong way.

A lot of aid has been lost because of recent federal and school cutbacks, so I wouldn't begin to assume anything about the OP's grades.

My advice is to learn as much as you can here and work as little as possible while actually attending classes and as much as possible during your breaks. Don't overschedule yourself.

It's too bad you're in the Midwest, which isn't the greatest part of the country to dance in, but maybe you're lucky enough to be near one of the rare cities that can be decent.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Hi IC, there are lots of girls here (myself included) dancing through college. I think ^Susan's advice is great- concentrate on school and don't work too much. I work 3 days a week- Thursday, Friday, Saturday but you may want to only work 1 or 2 days depending on how much $ you make/how much $ you need.
    Best of luck!

Nope, nope, nope. My friends and I used to get great financial aide, even when considered dependent on our parents. Along came Bush's war, and loans replaced actual financial aide.

If you do decide to dance, I wouldn't think you'd want to dance at a club too close to campus though. Better to drive and hour and reduce/eliminate the chance of running into classmates. Unless of course, you don't care.

My parents moved me away for college right at 18. We did not get along very well so having them support me was awful. I was in a male dominated program in a conservative town.

I started dancing out of town because I was bored and miserable. It was the best decision for me! It gave me financial freedom from my parents and our relationship improved greatly. I was able to take the time to get through school and really figure out what I wanted to graduate in after I had wasted three years in a program that wasn't for me. It was also nice to graduate without any debt.

I also agree to try to find a club a little out of town. I would never have wanted to dance for a classmate.

    Good Luck!

I lot of the midwest colleges have been hit hard. Tution has been hiked up at virtually every school (public and private). There is also a huge lack of support for schools that has been going on for about 7 years now. Hell, I know students who still have scholarships and financial aid but they can't keep up with the increases in tuition.

To ichottie: yes, it can be done. I speak from a current college student and past (but probably will start up again) stripper.

Just be focused and don't lose sight of your ultimate goal, and you will do fine, I'm half way through paying my over-priced education, but there's no better feeling then knowing that I did it myself , had fun in the meantime and did'nt compromise anything but my time and effort in the process, and the satisfaction of knowing I will have no debt to deal with at the end of this year. Best of Luck!

-i- have never used the "pl" term to describe a customer, neither have plenty of dancers on here. i don't lead guys on and my "hustle" isn't based on suckering anyone.

i dance for you/talk to you and you pay me. simple. i'm not going to play "we might have a relationship" or "we might fuck" with anyone.. and i'm not in the minority. that's all i'm saying

It can be done, I did it...but it requires extreme discipline, organization and prioritization. There will be days when you can't help the schedule; having to work late but still have to get to class at 8am. Watch your partying at work and keeping up with studying, tests, etc.
And inevitably, I ran into a professor or classmate or two at the club so be prepared on how to handle that.
Also, while I don't recommend going into debt, consider student loans. Even if you take like 50% out, it will take some of the financial stress off of having to make school money + living expenses. Good luck!
