Default UNlike the 3D animation: definitely graphic info. Mucus plug ahoy!

Wow. Yikes. I most definitely lost my mucus plug - the "bloody show" - this morning. I am feeling okay so far, and I know it can then be days and even weeks before labor begins in earnest, but STILL! This is really going to happen!!!

Moms who have done this - when did you lose your plug (if you noticed - some don't)? How far away was labor???

    Me too!

(I wish my midwife would call me back. I only called like 10 minutes ago, but still. Freaking a little.)

Yup. It's what keeps the cervix closed throughout pregnancy. It dislodges before labor when the cervix starts to efface and dilate. If the cervix is a tiny donut, this is like the jelly filling.

Technically, you can deliver safely at 36 weeks. 3 of my kids came around that. So it could be a few hours, a few days, a few weeks. Trust me, you will know when you are in labor. With one of my kids I didn't lose it till after being in labor for 36 hours. I wouldn't doubt if you are dilating already.

Heavens to betsy, first time I've been glad I didn't have a donut!

I'm getting a little crampy. Nothing overwhelming or regular/rhythmic. But I am so nervous! I never done this before!

I worry also that I may have been losing some fluid when I passed the plug! It was only a little bit, but the leaking (lightly bloody but very much a thin liquid) started before I made it to the toilet. Des this mean my sac is broken? I just don't know!

What do I do? Go to work as usual? Clean the house like a maniac? Eep.

(And yeah, all my care providers, from my beloved home birth midwives to the slightly-less-beloved-but-still-caring CNMs at an OB practice, have cleared me to deliver safely anytime from April 13th - yesterday - on. The due date in my ticker is actually the LATEST one, as in, there's some discrepancy; I could technically be 37 or even 38 weeks along. So I'm not worried about that.)

My friend, while in full on labour, went to the Apple Festival and picked out some apple pies to bring with her to the hospital to give her doctors.

    Jus' sayin'.

Yep.. You could really go anytime. All of mine were before their due dates:

Matt: Due June 21st, Born June 3rd
Steffi: Due April 26th, Born April 2nd
Delia: Due June 5th, Born May 28th
Hunter: Due September 6th, Born August 27th

I really can't remember when I lost my plugs with any of them--but I know it had to be about 1-2 weeks before they were all born.

I'm so excited for you! That baby's getting ready for his or her debut! Rest up now, Hunny. Get a massage, treat yourself to a manicure---do something for YOU. And get ready for the ride of your life!

Um, if you are leaking, your water broke hun. Mine did that with my second baby. Sounds like it's go time! Start timing them, crampy is a contraction.

^^ And I do have little cramps about 10-12 minutes apart at this point. I tried to deny it, but I can't anymore. LITTLE. Not that painful. But - probably not my imagination either.

THANKS GUYS!!! I think I'd better go take care of a few things right now. I'l check in later.

Holy crap.. I missed the leaking part! Call your OB. That baby might be more ready than you think! LOL

The only one my water broke (on its own) with was Delia. I'd just gotten out of the shower and was brushing my hair (still in my towel). Next thing ya know--puddle on the floor that wasn't from me drip-drying. It also didn't stop--was continuous--very slow, but I threw a pad on and paced the floor until Dan got home 15 minutes later. Had to change the pad by the time we got to the Hospital. It didn't stop until she was delivered by C-Section the next morning (Failed VBAC attempt due to no contractions at all).

But anyway--enough about my experience.. This is about you! Get ready Mama! Please let us know what the Doctor says! And keep those contractions timed.

I hate to be the downer here, but I had all the same stuff happen to me and still waited two weeks to deliver. I lost my mucous plug a week and a half before I delivered, and I had kind of a drippy watery discharge immediately afterwards that went on for...well...until my water actually broke. I had been dilated 2 centimeters for close to a month too.

Just for the hell of it, we got all excited when I lost my plug and took a picture of it. Yes, I know. We're disgusting. Funny though, I never had bloody show until I was well into active labour.

Hearing about the moments (be it a few weeks or hours) before the actual birthing are so surreal to me. Making little people is so crazy and cool.

    I'm really excited for you!!!

Well, I think this might really be it. We still have a ways to go to wait & see for 100% sure but I am definitely contracting, no doubt about it, and they are about 5-6 minutes apart. I'm passing pink fluid and some stringy bits of dark mucousy blood.

Poor Mast is frantically trying to get his stuff together to head here in a couple of hours! He has just been working his ass off for this - we never thought it would be on the early side!!! I have so much left to get and do! We ordered the pool but it hasn't arrived yet, dang it.

Well, my best friend/doula is gathering some supplies and heading over here, and one of the midwives will be here in a few hours. I'll try to check in again soon, but if I don't sweep the floor here & start organizing some other stuff, I'm going to freak out.

I have learned more about labor and babies in the past two days on SW than I have in a looooong time.
