Default I have to get rid of the kitten...

I cant take it. I just about killed her. She started urinating in the bathroom on the rugs. Then she started pooing in there too. My husband was like "You need to clean the catbox more" But of course HE wont clean the friggen thing.

So I bought stuff thats supposed to take the urine smell out of rugs. I wash the rugs in that and shes still urinating on them. I was like fine, Ill get rid of them. Then I go buy this self cleaning catbox for a ridiculous amount and shes STILL shitting in the bathroom. Last night I cleaned it up and its there again today. Im over it. I cant take it.

This cat has learned horrible habits and will not use the box - not a clean one, not a dirty one. Not a self cleaning one and not one I had to sift daily. Im out of options. Its sad but I cant take it anymore. Im going to end up wringing her neck.

Anyone know of ANYTHING else that will help. I called my husband and told him ONE WEEK. Ill do anything for one week to fix her otherwise shes gone.

She has no parasites, has all her shots and I got her fixed (which I thought would fix the urinating problem) but all it did was make her start pooing all over too.

I SWEAR shes doing it in spite of me. She hates me... shes a brat.

I want to add that when I adopted her they told me she was found in a dumpster. Shes a bit sketchy - doesnt like to be pet, held, etc. When I got her she was 3 months old so shes now about 7 months. She scratches (always has her claws out) and is now teaching my older cat to claw up the back of the couch. She bites and scratches us if we try to pet her. She starts fights with my older cat and makes her so mad.

I think its time for me to give up and find her a new home...

Put the litterbox in the bathroom? Maybe since you guys "go" there, she wants to, too!

I just want you to know not to feel too terrible if you can't find anything to do. When I was younger, my dad adopted a lab mix (still technically a puppy, but almost full-grown). The pound had found him in the alley. We did everything we could to get that dog to behave... even expensive training schools. It helped but he still had some of that street-like behavior. He wound chase us and try to lay down on us, bite us, etc. Eventually, we just had to take him back to the pound. Just like I shouldn't be afraid to go into my own backyard, you shouldn't have to wade through shit and piss to take a bath.

What about those little mats that absorb smells and stuff that they use for puppy-training? It MIGHT help. Or, being a cat, she might just shred them.

    Thats a tough situation.

I rescued my dog an she was always very sweet, but VERY destructive to the house when I was gone... like, literally, she probably destroyed 5000 dollars worth of furniture and clothes of mine.

I put a LOT of time and effort into crate training here again (I got her from some fuck hats who starved her and left her alone outside in a cage for days on end so she was scared of crates at first...) and now she is wonderful and perfect in her cage and my house is not fucked up.

It took a lot of time, but in the end it was worth it. But it took maybe 9 months of having her to get to that point. If you don't want to put the time into and can't find anything that works, try to find another home for her....in the mean time can you put her in a laundry room or something with the litter box and leave her in there and see if she goes in it?

aww, I'm sorry. I had to get rid of the most adorable grey-striped kitten b/c of the same thing. My BF found him under his car and we tried our best to train him, but in the end he had to go. I felt awful, but he wouldn't stop attacking and clawing my BF's other animals (and clawing us too!) and the whole house was in an upset b/c all the other pets were afraid of him.

Try not to feel too bad; you're doing everything you can think of to make it work. But sometimes you can try everything and just can't get an abused or 'street' animal to learn new habits.

^^^ I have thought of that but really, shes an outdoor kitty - she does not want to be inside and Im hoping my husbands brother will take her because he lives on a few acres...

I just cant have her attacking my daughter, me and my other cat anymore. I cant even put softclaws on her because with my husband and I both trying we got claws out I have a huge deep scratch on my arm and a new one on my leg from being attacked as I was walking around the corner.

Its just all adding up to be bad but I love her and will be sad to get rid of her. Im just hoping theres some magical cure...

Did I forget to mention she will poop just in front of the catbox. Like 6" away or just in front of the entrance.... she hasnt done that in a while - now its all over my daughters bathroom...

Can you isolate the cat so she must use the new box-like a laundry room?I haven't had a cat for a long time. But my dogs always went outside to poop and whatever I guess I am just lucky-they have never gone in the house but I did leave them outside for the first month or so when I got them and only let them inside while I was around.Hope it works out for you two.

It is unusual for cat not to take to the litterbox naturally. Maybe she is sick?

Lock her in a room with the litter box. Keep dropping her in the box. She *should* take to it. Give her a treat every time she uses.

BTW, my cat was terrified of the self cleaning box. It was too noisy.

Funny thing is she was fine with the box until she went in heat. I had an appointment for her but she went into heat before the appointment to spay. She was in heat about 3 weeks. Once she went into heat she stopped using the box (even after she was spayed) I wonder if she was traumatized by being in heat or something?

    I wish Cam was here!!!!

did you talk to your vet? they might have a better idea of whats going on.

if nothing works, i hope your brother takes her so you know shes going to a good home.

Like the others have said, have you taken her to the vet for this specific problem? She could be in pain of some kind. The first thing to do with a behavior change - which this is - is always to take the animal to the vet to make sure it's not a physical problem. There are also animal behaviorists - who should advise you first to take the animal to get checked out physically.

If she's an outdoor cat with your relative, she'll probably never get vet care.

You can also take the cat in to a vet tech every 6 weeks or so to get soft paws put on there.

I DO believe there's a solution, if you are able to put the effort into finding it (i.e. vet and possibly behaviorist).

I can't believe no one's mentioned -- pooping or peeing right next to the box is a sign of bowel discomfort or urinary tract infection! If it began happening when she went into heat, that could have thrown her body chemistry off and caused such problems.

    Take her to the vet!

Well, lift the carpets in the bathroom until she's litter trained. There is something about rubber backed mats that cats like to pee on. We keep the cat litter in the bathroom, and we can't keep anything else on the floor. Shut the bathroom door. I mean, start by eliminating the problem area.

Make sure she knows where the litterbox is. And keep it clean. If you are dealing with litter problems you need a very clean box - it sounds to me like that has been the problem.

Going into heat is stressful for a cat. Litterboxes are pretty dirty by nature, so some cats react to stress by habiting themselves to go elsewhere. Keep the box clean and try to eliminate access to the other areas she wants to go.

For the clawing get her a scratching post. Get a water gun or spray bottle and spray her when you see her claw anywhere else. Add a little vinegar if the water is inadequate (but not unless the water is inadequate). Finally you can get some two sided tape and and apply it to the areas she scratches. Cats don't like it.

Jenny - I pretty much did what you said yesterday!

I told my daughter that if that bathroom door is left open her kitten is gone because Im tired of cleaning up in there. So, all day yesterday it was closed and she used the box in the laundry room. Its now clean all the time (because its self cleaning) and she hasnt gone in front or around it.

I bought some stuff called No Scratch and she stopped scratching the back of the couch and I also got a waterbottle which has helped keep her from starting up her scratching on the chair and keep her off the tables/counters.

Today Im going to buy new bathmats for the kids bathroom because even tho I used Natures Miracle on them twice they still smell like a little bit of urine and I think thats why she keeps urinating on them again and again...

I know when I took her to the vet to get spayed I had them check her for parasite and they said she doesnt have any. Im taking both the cats to get shots today so I guess Ill have them check them both again...

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Im going to give her a bit of time with my changes so hopefully she learns. Im also going to try to find a place that will put the softclaws ON her because we cant get them on her and Im tired of her attacking us.

You spray it on the furniture where they scratch and I guess its something they dont like because she stopped scratching on there (but is finding new places) Wish i could dip my couches in this shit... Im going spray crazy. It works and it supposedly all natural.

    Audrey,

Most dog and cat "salons" will put on softclaws. Also, the banfield clinic and usually the groomers in petsmart will put them on.

I've heard that cats dislike perfume, so I used to spray LoveSpell on the edge of my bed and Lulu would stay away from it. Just an idea to stop scratching.
