    Default Glycolic Acid wtf

Um, could someone have told me this 14 years ago? Glycolic acid gets rid of acne- like, totally. Really fast. I've been using Neostrata GA 8% toner for not even a week now...and I'm pre-period with no pimples. Maybe it's a coincidence, but my skin feels different too. Nuts.

Makes sense. I saw a dermatologist years ago and he suggested a glycolic peel to soften up my scars. I never had a pimple for three years afterwards.

Speak of which, it's getting to be high time for a do-over.

This is what I'm using, but I think any Glycolic acid 8-10% is probably just as good.

I discovered the wonders of glycolic acid about a year ago after using the L'oreal Glycolic Peel Kit. Its only a 10% glycolic peel and I saw such a difference in my skin. After I ran out, I decided to step it up a notch and I started to do some research. I found that a 30% peel is considered to be a safe "at-home" peel. I stumbled upon a few websites that sell pure glycolic but there were really expensive. Then I entered the wonderful world of EBAY!!!! There are actually sellers on ebay that sell different percentages of pure glycolic acid. I purchased a 2oz bottle of 30% glycolic acid and my skin has wonderful ever since. I use it once a week. It will tingle a bit in the beginning, but make sure yoy wash it off within 6-7 min.... After your skin has gotten accustomed to it (about 3-4 uses), you will be able to gauge you own regime... I am now on my second bottle...trust me... its some good stuff

Sorry I didnt share this sooner, I havent been on in months. I am studying for my actuary exams and I havent had a moment to breathe....

I really like http://www.makeupartistschoice.com for glycolic peels (and TCA). They're cheap, they have great service, several different strengths of peels, and you can buy complete kits. They also throw in freebie samples of other products. Love!

Avon sells gycolic acid facial pads. I'm going to place an order with my aunt, she sells avon. I'll report a review on it.

I've been using 5% Glycolic acid cream by Reviva labs for a year now. My skin has never been more clear or smooth. Even my scars are less noticeable. My makeup (powder only) also looks good over it since it is moisturizing.

How is this different from Retin A?

Glycolic is an alpha hydroxy acid made from sugar-based plants.
It is applied to the skin for a specific amount of time and then neutralized.
You do not need a prescription to buy the solution.

Retin-A is a topical medication where the active ingredients are retinoic acid (a Vitamin A derivative) and tretinoin.
It is applied to the skin and left on.
You do need a prescription to buy it.

Both exfoliate the skin and stimulate the collagen layer.

Yes it's good but salicylic acid is the best one for acne.

I highly recommend the cosmedix range of products, some containing salicylic acid.

    http://www.cosmedix.com/category.php?cid=2

They have a fantastic Retinol A forumla which is good for acne too. Don't buy any Retinol A products anywhere except from a derm etc coz over the counter they can only contain 1% retinol A whereas the Cosmedix range has 4%, 8% and 12%.

If I'm not mistaken, glycolic acid is a main ingredient in the Proactiv line too. Definitely in the toner. It worked wonderfully but it changed the texture of my skin so much that I couldn't get foundation to stay on. It would just slick right off. I remember having that problem after my glycolic peel too.

I also second makeupartistschoice.com. The lactic and glycolic peels have curbed the hormonal, cystic acne I'm prone to getting on my chin.
